Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1986 ford  ranger 4x4..automatic...2.9
motor....v6. Ive had this truck for a couple months
now and I haven't had any problems ...but the other
day my boyfriend fixed the a/c and then I notice my
truck starting to overheat. So he took out the a/c
(disconnected it) and it still gets hot. He's  tryed
everything he can think of as far as he changed the
thermostat, the radiator, the heat sensor, an the
fan...still didn't fix it...the water pump is fairly new
and seems to work fine...he even made sure the
catalytic converters were clogged up...still
nothing...he can't figure it out...please if u no the
problem please tell me thank u

Long shot but could he have put thermostat backwards. Why not take it out and see what happens. What happens when overheats, is it only gauge showing it? Could gauge be bad?
