1989 xlt lariat 302 5.0 timing chain cover end seal

ok, I feel like a moron. I've got the fel-pro gasket set and it comes with an end seal. I got the old one out. but, REALLY don't want to screw up putting the new one in. it seams like it should be installed from the inside of the cover. is this right? what's the best way to install this?

As it sits on the motor, it should be installed from the bottom., into the groove below the crank seal. A litle bit of lithium grease or engine oil will help it go in place better.

I think maybe I meant the crank seal. you're talking about the seal that meets with the oil pan, right? I meant the one that goes around the crank shaft itself metal ring with a rubber inset.

OK, the seal usually goes from the outside in. Its done easiest with a seal driver. Or if you`re very careful, you can use a hammer to get it started and then use the flat(big) end of a punch to get it flush with the surface of the cover.
