I have a 1987 f150 with a 300 inline 6, it will start up and idel just fine but when I go to drive it will act like it is starving for gas minutes later

Try checking things which cost no money. Remove the plugs and check their condition and the gap. Check the resistance on the plug wires. Clean the carb. A fuel pressure gauge cost about twenty bucks.
