I have 87 F150 runs fine at first, but then loses power, can't get over 55mph

Check the easy things first. Clogged air filter. has the fuel filter ever been changed. If equipted, clean the mass air flow sensor. If it has one, be careful, it's as thick as a human hair. Use a Q-tip and solvent and be extremely gentle. Clean the throttle body, etc.
