is the 700r4 for a 2,8 the same trans as a 700r4 for a 4,3 or 2.5 engine

Asked by larryshepard Oct 16, 2015 at 12:39 PM about the 1988 Chevrolet S-10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 1988 s10 pickup extended cab pickup with a 2.8 engine and i am
wondering if the 700r4 trans would be able to swap out with a 700r4 trans
for a 2.5 or a 4.3 engine? i am having a really hard time finding a 700r4 for
a 2.8 and didn't know if the output shafts were the same for the 4.3 engine
in the s10 or even a full size pickup 700r4 trans maybe? any feedback
would be greatly appreciated!

I thought in the 2.8 and 4.3 it is a 2004r not a 700r4 could be wrong.......its basically the same trans just different gearing but the bellhousings should be the exact same thing......didnt see how old this post is but was boored and figured id chime in....cheers!!
