ignition or solenoid

I've got a 84 vette most of the time when I turn the key she dose nothing the lights dash every thing else comes on but the starter will not engage but some times if you jump it she'll start some times if you play with the key it will start and with it does start if you pull up some where I have the same problem all over again what do you think ignition or solenoid? thank you in advance.

i would replace both,since they are easy fixes,i would start with ignition switch because you said you play with key.
