2.2 4cyl auto. engine idles very rough then stalls. If key is left on after it stalls dash lights (oil, battery, hand brake) begin flashing at a irregular rate. just like if you were turning the key on/off. Seems to be a power issue. Thanks

immobiliser can activate after stall. disable it by pressing the button on the key fob. then it will restart. often it will not run rough again for several days. It seems to stall a random time

After much research it now appears that the CRIR Module that controls the immobiliser and some key fob functions is a common problem here in Australia. Off to get it tested. Will advise if it is faulty.

Couldn`t get it tested so I bought a new genuine toyota CIR relay that came with 2 new key fobs. activated them both. Now the doors lock with the key fobs something it didn`t do before. All ran well for several weeks then It stopped in my driveway. It ran rough at an idle then stalled. All the normal lights came on the dash. Efi round relay was very hot. Replaced temp sender unit on thermostat housing as it had been mentioned in some forums as giving false information to the ECU. Replaced efi relay. It still stalls after 2-3 minutes. The rev counter drops to zero as it stalls. Tried both keys, 1 original with chip and the other a cut copy. I give the key barrel a good push-pull and wriggle but could not replicate the problem. It has a brand new distributor fitted. May pull the cap of the distributor and check out the interior. Your thoughts
