And the heat starts getting cold. When I stp at a red light for just a bit, the
gauge begins going up again to the normal range and the heat begins
blowing in the car.

Sounds like low coolant level or a bad thermostat. Check level of coolant first.

Thank you! That was it! I never thought to check that because that seems like the opposite symptom of low coolant! You saved me a lot of anxiety. I don’t know what I’d do if she ever quit working or needed a major repair. God bless and happy new year!
