What does it mean when my mant reqd dummy light is on? Is it just telling me to fill a fluid?

I have a 2006 Corolla, and the Mant req'd light usually goes on approx. every 5000 miles indicating it is time to change the oil. An oil change consists of changing the motor oil, lube chassis & changing the oil filter. IN most cases a mechanic would check all other fluids to make sure they are topped off. To reset this mant req'd light, you have to make sure the miles are showing on the dash, then turn the car off. Holding the trip reset button, turn the key to the ON position, you should see dashes where the miles were on the dash and then the light should go out. If you live in New York City, my father has an auto repair station in Bronx. Bring it in.
