Audible clicking, lights flickering?

Asked by Brianna Mar 14, 2014 at 02:23 AM about the 2007 Ford Focus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2007 Ford Focus SE has been running great but all of a sudden it makes this
audible clicking noise while I'm driving and the lights flicker with each click. The battery
light then comes on, then goes off. The worst it got was while it was doing the clicking,
the speedometer stopped working, the lights wouldn't work and the door kept
locking/unlocking repeatedly. I pulled over, had someone check the connections and it
worked fine again. Now it's starting to click again. I really don't have the money to see a
mechanic...

Sounds like you have more than just a loose fuse or relay. Make sure that your main battery cables are tight. Check all of your grounds. Especially the one on the negative side of your battery. Make sure ground contacts are very clean with no rust or corrosion. After you have cleaned everything, post back and let us know if that cured the problem.

You need to replace the ground cable the cable from the negative battery terminal to the motor should do it but some times you have to run another cable to the firewall so the body can actually be grounded. The problem you experiencing is a ground problem have a blessed day.
