Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 94 firebird, i was trying to get in the center so i was trying to take off the  automatic shifter by turning it, the i heard a pop, now the  automatic shifter moves back an forth with out using the button, my Steering wheel is lock, the key wont turn and my brakes are tight, can anyone tell we what i did wrong and how much it is to fix it?

when you turned the shifter knob, you broke it.their is a rod the button on shifter works, that is why u have to apply break to put it in gear, that is also why you cant turn the key switch and stearing wheel is locked, reason breaks are tight when you pushed down on peddle it built up pressure in the break boster.you will have to replace the shifter and probley a shift lenkage.
