I have a 1997 Pontiac gtp that has been sitting without power for several months. I bought a new battery and installed it. my problem is this. When I start the car, it will run for 3 to 5 seconds and then die. No sputter etc., just total stop. I have checked the fuel pump, it works as you turn the key to on. The red wire prime works, the grey wire has no voltage as you start the car. The fuel pump runs continuous with 12 volts applied with jumper line from the battery. Could there be a passkey security system original to the car that is disabling the system? If so, how can I clear it. Any thoughts would be helpful.

yes...grab a coarse wirebrush and undo the 1/0 battery cable to the fender/ground/chassis....undo the bolt and wirebrush till shiny, the bolt and lug too....also the 1/0 connection to the engine block (near the alternator)~ get SOLID ground through the 1/0 battery cable, your problems will vanish...all of them~
