I have a 1997 Pontiac gtp that has been sitting without power for several months. I bought a new battery and installed it. my problem is this. When I start the car, it will run for 3 to 5 seconds and then die. No sputter etc., just total stop. I have checked the fuel pump, it works as you turn the key to on. The red wire prime works, the grey wire has no voltage as you start the car. The fuel pump runs continuous with 12 volts applied with jumper line from the battery. Could there be a passkey security system original to the car that is disabling the system? If so, how can I clear it. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I bought EGR Valve & Catalytic Converter for 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8L with 225k on Friday, Saturday I had it installed, I should of done the EGR myself just I'm not good with those things & didn't know if I replaced the EGR before the Catalytic Converter if that would mess anything up one before the other as I don't want to be stranded. Only thing is after those 2 things were replaced it still runs like crap. Suggestions? I've asked around. I've been told to get it hooked up to a computer. I contacted another mechanic in MN & he told me take the throttle body off & clean well & then replace.??? 8 Answers
