Burning Oil

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys. Just bought a 2002  5.5 Gen Maxima 6 speed with 108,000 miles back in January and I was wondering how many people are having problems with burning oil? I have only been through one oil change since I got the car and I havent noticed the engine burning oil but I can ocasionally smell it ( just a hint)  from the exhaust. Doing research etc. before buying the car this issue seemed like a serious one but apparently it only occurs in about 10% to 15% of the engines. Is this a problem in all VQ35's or just in the Maxima? All comments and insight appreciated!

Owned a 2000 VQ35 Maxima and sold it with 148k with no oil leaks, no burning oil and no other problems, aside from a blown stabilizer link which is nothing. I bought the car with 60k on it.

Why valve seals? Why not piston rings? or a bad PCV system?

you asked for a opinion .i gave you the best one with the milage,if it were a piston ring you would be blowing smoke out the rear all the time what we call a oil burner, for a bad pcv,you would build up pressure in the engine and blowing seals, like the rear main and others,it would be leaking oil all the time.papa 101.
