How many miles should I have my oil changed?

Asked by Sandra Mar 12, 2017 at 03:04 AM about the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2017 Equinox I was told I should have my first oil change at 5000 miles.
We bought a home and are moving out of state, I was unable to have my oil
changed and I currently have 7248 miles on my vehicle. I know and I will get the oil
changed asap. My question is should I drive it  back home it's another 700 miles? I
don't want to stay at my daughters, my husband is disabled and I need to get
back. Will it hurt the vehicle to drive it Nother 700 miles ?

No but you should change it as soon as you get back..

You will be fine. I change mine at 7,500 miles or once a year which ever comes first. Going a few hundred miles over the change mileage will not hurt anything.

Also you could stop by a Chevy dealership along the way and get your vehicle serviced and that way you wouldn't have to worry about it. I do not recommend going to a quick lube place to have oil changes as the dealerships know more about what your vehicle needs. Also don't let the dealership sell you any additional repairs or service you don't need.

Once a year or 5000 km or if change oil light comes on. Trouble if you don’t frequently change oil, you must do an engine flash on the next oil change.
