Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My distributor will not rotate, so does that mean that my distributor drive gear, is broken.  Would the timing chain have something to do with it not turning

If your timing chain is broken the the crank and cam are no longer connected so the timing gear for the distributer on the cam will not rotate

Thank you so much, the answer I removed the harmonic balance and found the gear broken, what causes it to break

It could be fatigue from old age and wear or a multitude of other things I would suggest what they call a noisey gear set if one is available for your application as it replaces the chain with a few extra gears and is less prone to fasilure in my experience

Would the timing chain have anything to do with the shifting on a 1999 grand Cherokee limited
