Red Lightening boly and engine light

Asked by Chris Nov 28, 2021 at 03:59 PM about the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2013 Dodge Avenger. Car is running fine, but suddenly red lightening bolt
came on. It is not flashing (stays on steady) along with engine light. Any ideas of
what the problem is if the car appears to be running ok?

This light comes on when the ignition key is turned to START, but the engine is not running. The light should go out once the engine starts. If it stays on, or comes on while driving, there could be a problem with the charging system. I recommend you do not continue driving if the charging system light is steady on. Car will shut down after its electrical system has drained the battery amps down. Engine Light or Malfunction Indicator Lamp monitors operation of the fuel, ignition, and emission control systems. If this light is steady ON, an emission control system malfunction has been detected on the AVENGER. Make sure fuel cap is properly installed and not being left OFF or improperly installed, electrical system is not wet and poor quality fuel is not being used. Thanks
