Is the shifting of gears when the engine is running accomplished with grinding.

Asked by hundio Oct 20, 2015 at 08:43 PM about the 1996 Ford Ranger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The clutch slave is bad.  I think it needs replacing or bleeding. I am concerned
that shifting into gear does not prevent the truck from moving. The truck is a
1996 ford ranger.

I did tell you about the slave cylinder, of course the truck will move when you shift into gear. What is it you are asking? Your questions are not clear...

Ok, I will guess again, the gears will grind going into first, after that you do what is called speed shifting. Your slave cylinder or pressure plate needs to be replaced.

And if you are asking if it is good to grind your gears, no it is not. That is the purpose of the clutch.

They change my clutch on a 2000 for ranger, but when I shift to first and all the rest of my gears it’s really hard or when I come to a red light and pu it in neutral I need to turn my truck of and go to first gear
