Has Ford found a solution?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

From day 1 (bought it new) the vehicle shifts hard from 1st to 2nd from a dead stop.  If I stick my foot into it a little from a stop it shifts better, but who wants to drive that way.

Thanks Judge. Nothing there, I wasn't expecting anything. Will just have to stick my foot into the pedal a little harder from a dead stop. Interestingly enough, my brother has a 2012 F150. When he was driving in my car, when he felt it, he asked; what the hell is that? After an explanation I told him betcha yours does the same thing. No way; he said. When I got into his truck I started off with light pressure and guess what; hard shift from first to second. Fortunately he drives with a lead foot.

Have you contacted the Dealer about your concern? Often, it's as easy as a PCM reprogram. A capable Transmission Tech (or at least one that can read) should be able to check the PIDs and see what's going on. A real Tech would do that AND hook up some Gauges to see the actual pressures. In the old days (3-speed Automatics like the C-6) you wanted a firm shift in the Transmission - that's how you make clutch packs last - no slip and firm, positive engagement. These days, most people want car-like comfort from a truck AND expect it to work hard. Computer controls make that possible.
