Heat not working in my car

Asked by Guru9Y73VM Feb 14, 2021 at 07:04 PM about the 2003 Hyundai Elantra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The heat in my car stopped getting really
warm, so someone suggested we put a 195
thermostat in it. After we removed the 185
thermostat we learned they do not make a
195 thermostat for our car. We bought a new
185 and installed it. Now we have no warm
heat at all, only cold air. Someone said it could
have air in the line. Would anyone know what
else could be wrong?

You need a 195 degree thermostat or warmer in order for the engine to run properly. With a 185 t stat your fuel economy will be poor. Air in the system is a possibility, burp it.

According to what I'm seeing a 180°F thermostat is correct for your vehicle. I'm thinking you have either air in the cooling system or a clogged heater core. If the heater core is clogged you'll want to flush the cooling system with a chemical cleaner. Hope that helps! Jim
