Car wont accelerate

We have a chevy impla 2010 that won't accelerate.  
My husband was driving from work and the car just
stopped on him. He turned the car off then waited
3 minutes and turned it back on and started
driving. The car would turn off everytime he would
come to a red like and had to brake. Please help...

Need to start by having the vehicle scanned for any trouble codes.
