Headlights aren't working right.
This is something I really have no idea about. The guy I bought my 1996 GMC Sierra
from has the headlights connected directly to the battery, he says other wise they
loose power and don't work anymore. The problem is, I can't switch from high to low
beams and it appears that I am always on high (which is no good, don't want to get a
ticket for that). Does anyone know why they have to be connected directly to the
battery to work and what I could do to fix it?
The thing off to the right is what I'm talking about, it has wires that go all the way to the headlights, along with these two little box things on them. I don't know what he's got rigged here..
They don't have to be connected directly to the battery. Apparently the relay or switch went bad and this guy is the epitome of shade-tree mechanic He used the top post of a battery with both top and side-post, and what looks like a fusible link, and the ground is held on the neg with black tape!. It may cost you, but get rid of all that crap on the top posts, and try a new headlight relay. And maybe headlight switch. This guy probably uses duct tape on leaking radiator hoses and bubble-gum for a dip=stick cap.
