Car tries to start then gives out.

Asked by Durango_1071 Jan 19, 2017 at 11:20 PM about the 1999 Ford Expedition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1999 Ford expedition won't start. Every time I
turn the key it will sound like it's going to start then
it gives out. What do you think is wrong with it? We
changed the fuel pump but still nothing.

Not much to go on but I would do a tuneup (spark plugs) and replace the fuel filter. If the CEL is on then have the codes read and post them here. If the engine was missing a lot a coil or coils may be bad.

Could be a number of reasons for this to happen. Check the throttle body and the IAC valve (idle air control). Does it start and keep running ok with the gas pedal pushed a little (5-10%)? Also please post the engine so we know what we are talking about... Best of luck!
