Brake light came on and stays on

Asked by jonkane24 Jan 25, 2013 at 01:50 PM about the 2000 Ford Expedition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The brake light on my truck came on and stayed on.  I checked the brake fluid and the level is correct.  The pedal was acting mushy and after driving a few miles now must go all the way to the floor to have any brakes.  Any suggestions?

Start by bleeding them. And look for fluid around the wheels, sometimes the centrifugal force from a leaky slave will spin out on the wheel/tire. keep a real close eye on the fluid level

Minute leakage at the calipers due to over extended piston seals from low pads, will burn off instantly leaving no trace only pressure loss. Change pads.

If no other problems are apparent, a weak master cylinder is always a safe bet. Check for bubbeling in the reservoir.
