1998 Durango the brakes squeak in the brake lights on when I put a little pressure on the brake pedal it stops what could that be

The brakes need to be replaced. Brake light coming on because the pad are worn and the fluid in the master cylinder is low but will fill back up once the caliper pistons have been pressed back in to make room for the new pads and the squeak is from the brake pad wear inductor. I know your question is why does the squeak go away when you apply the brake and not when the brakes are applied and that is because it all depends on how the far away or how close the wear indicator is to the rotor.
