Starter issues..

Asked by Tristiacon Sep 22, 2015 at 05:24 PM about the 1985 Chevrolet C/K 10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 85' C10 with a New Crate GM Performance 350. I've gone thru 4
starters (Autozone) in 3 months. What can be causing the truck to go thru
starters so quickly? This last starter tested 100% at autozone but still
makes that horrible noise and the motor won't even crank. The first 2
starters had no shims, the 2nd had 1 and this last one had 2. The fly wheel
is also new and the teeth look good!  I can't start the truck and see what
the starter is doing at the same time. I have no help so any advice for one
person to do this would be appreciated!

Try a off road starter, a bit more expensive but will do the trick.
