Not too many miles but if the oil hasn't been changed regularly it can happen. Is the oil clean? Does it smell like gas?

I would have a REPUTABLE mechanic look at it. The Chevy 350 (I'm assuming) is very easy to work on. They should be able to put a new pump on it, fairly cheap if the engine is worth saving. Don't run the engine any more if you can help it.
