Why does my 2004 Dodge Caravan smoke while reversing?

My 2004 Dodge Caravan smokes while reversing after driving it.  It is a V6 -
3.3 engine.  The van does not run hot nor does the temperature gauge
show overheating.  My check engine light came on a few days ago & when
I had it checked the code read as "ECT sensor connector is damaged, has
failed or is out of calibration"  Can someone
please help me to understand what the problem may be?  I thank you in
advance for your time and answers.

ECT means Engine Cooling Temperature sensor, this is what tells the cooling fans to turn on but would not have anything to do with it smoking in reverse. If engine smokes it smokes in forward and reverse. Is the coolant level low, check engine oil level. Replace the engine cooling temperature sensor, verify coolant and oil levels and see if you still have the smoke issue.
