my haynes manual mentions fuel filter for "2003 models only"

every car has a fuel filter or else u would have lots of problems with fuel lines gettin clogged and injectors as well.

The fuel filter mounts to the top of the fuel tank. The inlet and outlet tubes are permanently attached to the filter.
