Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I inherited a nice civic from my mom the car runs great but the other day it started popping in the front end every time you turn the steering wheel mostly when you turn left than right. I'm thinking maybe its something like cv/boot or ball joint ? I work on all my cars and trucks but they are american made. If anyone  has the knowledge on honda front end problems they will be highly appreciated. Thanks you for your time.Rick!

It is probably your CV joints cheeper in the long run to replace entire axle

If it is more of a "clicking" sound that displays itself routinely in a left hand turn, your C/V (Constant Velocity) joint on the right side is bad. This is an axle that has universal joints covered with a rubber dust shield. The dust shield keeps the lubricant in the universal joints. Over time, the boot fails and allows the lubricant to escape. The universal joint becomes dry, contaminated and begins to wear out. The clicking will be faint initially and get louder as the joint detertioates. Eventually, it will completely fail and come apart which will leave you stranded. Options: You can rebuild or replace the entire half shaft. Replace the entire shaft, it's not that big of a deal and cheaper. Most garages can do this job for about $100-200.00; if you're mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself for about $75.00 to $100.00. But do something about it now because it's on the verge of failure. Sometimes, you can actually lose your steering when they break and the broken shaft can create more damage when the car is in motion before getting it stopped. BE CAREFUL!
