I have a 1975 BMW 2002 that starts and runs fine while in park but as soon as I place the car in gear, it stalls. Any ideas?

That is an ancient, antique car- and if there is no rust, it is worth putting some money into- find a good classic car mechanic, somebody who moves slow, like a Loris-
