Wow, really the cost and headache is Unbelievable you're much better purchasing a '05 GT left hand drive. Sounds like a gray market car? Best Volkswagen Group vehicle there is other than Bugatti.
No- they are engineered differently in so many ways- if this is a problem, and it sounds like you have money, just get something else-
