The 2022 Porsche Macan retained much of its original design from its 2015 debut, despite receiving regular updates over the years. The latest iteration featured a refreshed styling, larger standard wheels, and a new centre console with haptic touch controls, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. The Macan S, our test vehicle, showcased a sleek Volcano Gray exterior with 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels, embodying Porsche's tradition of graceful aging. Inside, the Macan drew inspiration from other Porsche models, with a sporty and upscale cabin featuring red leather, gloss black trim, and silver metallic accents, creating a purposeful and luxurious atmosphere.

In contrast, the 2023 Volvo XC90 marked a significant departure from Volvo's past boxy designs, presenting a purposeful yet understated appearance. Its front end was solid and assertive, complemented by the iconic "Thor’s Hammer" headlights, adding a modern touch. The XC90's dimensions remained somewhat rectilinear, but it no longer resembled the utilitarian designs of the past. Our test vehicle, in Ultimate trim, featured 21-inch wheels and a Platinum Grey paint with brown undertones, adding depth and richness. Inside, the XC90 exuded elegance with two-tone leather, metal speaker covers, and luxurious Nappa leather upholstery, creating a minimalist yet sophisticated cabin.

The 2022 Porsche Macan offered a range of powertrains, with the Macan S featuring a twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine producing 375 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This engine, previously used in the Macan GTS, allowed the Macan S to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package. All Macans came with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission and a fully variable AWD system. The Macan S also benefited from larger 20-inch wheels, Porsche Active Suspension Management, and optional performance upgrades like Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and Porsche Surface Coated Brakes. The Macan S delivered a thrilling driving experience, with precise handling and impressive grip, while maintaining comfort for everyday driving.

The 2023 Volvo XC90 introduced the B6 engine, a mild-hybrid powertrain with a supercharger and turbo, producing 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This setup offered improved fuel efficiency and smoother operation compared to previous engines. The XC90's eight-speed automatic transmission provided seamless shifts, and the vehicle's insulation minimized road and wind noise. While the XC90 lacked extensive off-road capabilities, it offered a comfortable and composed ride, with responsive brakes and a straightforward driving experience.
