Had this car for 6 years, honestly a fantastic vehicle. If you’re a Top Gear fan, One of the 2 models approved by all 3 gents (Jeremy’s antics aside). Had standard Subaru head gasket leak - but never got worse. Got Harmon Kardon speakers inside, great AC, awesome AWD. Loved this car to death! Highly recommend - will keep you safe in snow. Just upkeep on maintenance and it’s your ride or die.
March 16, 2025This was my first Subaru....all I can say, I will only own a Subaru from here on out!!!! This car has caused me no issue, other than the normal, expected maintenance costs. When everyone was yelling about gas prices, I was not affected. This car not only looks good, it has been super reliable!!!
February 9, 2015I thought that going from a really fast car to one with 170 hp would be tough. It wasn't though due to the overall balance and driving dynamics of the Subaru. I love having the security of Subaru's symetrical all wheel drive and the five speed makes it fun to drive. MPG has been great so far, I'm averaging 30mpg with mixed driving. The quality of the interior is top notch and the lines of the car are seductive. My first Subaru but certainly not my last!

September 9, 2008This car has been great, period. It grips to the snow during the winter, cuts through the spring rain, and glides through the summer's dry pavement. The sleek, slender look of the Subaru Legacy 2.5i SE attracts the most fittest, outdoor enthusiasts in America. To boot, the sound system rocks a Harmon/Kardon 9-speaker system! Great car, great value--for life!
February 27, 2013I love the AWD platform and wish all of my cars had this. Being AWD does come with slightly reduced fuel mileage (I average 25.5mpg), but compared to other cars in it's class, the difference is minimal and extra costs are worth it in snowy areas. The seats are rather firm and the material seems to stain rather easily. Seat pads and covers provide a cheap and easy fix for this. Maintenance is not terrible since it will run off of standard oil, but other repairs can be costly, and Subaru dealers are not quite as common as many other makes. There is ample room in the trunk, and the passenger compartment has plenty of room for most average-sized people. The headlights are very bright and the high-beams are quite remarkable. The Harman Kardon audio system is also a perfect touch, well balanced, sufficiently powerful, and easy to operate.
February 29, 2012Performance is great - the car handles like a cat, and makes it extremely fun to drive. It might be a little down on power, but if that was going to be an issue, you probably should go for one of the 3.0 liter ones anyway. Build is good - no issues - but I guess I haven't put that many miles on it myself. I bought this car because it was THE ONLY decent looking car at this price with any sense of performance. No maintenance issues yet, gas mileage is low (I've averaged near 29, the factory listing is for 24ish) but that's a side effect of the AWD.
November 22, 2010Great car, lovely interior, and decent acceleration for a 4 cyl. Its sort of sluggish off the line if you really don't punch it, and the car sounds great when you're 4000 and higher in the RPM range. Revving to 8000 easily, but I really don't recommend it because it drinks some fuel when that happens due to it not being a performance engine.

October 6, 2009This car is a beast. it can handle anything thrown it's way. it has saved my life numerous times. closing in on 40k miles, this monster of a car is still standing strong. solid and healthy enough for 40k more. *UPDATE 8/2/2012*: 51k miles *UPDATE 11/28/2012*: 58k miles *UPDATE 1/26/13*: 61k miles
September 26, 2011It's a great car if you just need some decent transportation. It's not very fast, but the handling is decent and the fuel economy is pretty good on regular gas. The AWD is nice in the winter. The Harmon/Kardon audio sounds terrific, includes a sub. The price is reasonable and resale value is right up there with Honda and Toyota.
