The s85 engine is why I bought an e60 m5. In terms of hp for the money its a bargain. I cant think of any car thats faster for 15k. Although dont let the purchase price fool you. The real cost is in maintaining this beast of a car. Every time Ive had an issue with this car its several thousand dollars, just in parts.
Thank god I do my own work. The dealership quoted 6 thousand dollars to do the clutch. Even the rod bearings are a scheduled maintainance item every 80 thousand miles. And lets not forget how much a set of tires cost for this baby , around 4k if you go to the dealership . 200 mph rated tires are not cheap. In my humble opinion though this car is worth every penny.Apr 22, 2021

The most amazing feature of this car is its normally asperated whopping 10 cylinder engine producing 505hp. It is most likely going to be a collector. To get one with good miles would more than likely be a keeper.Dec 09, 2020

Ok an honest review. They are amazing and terrible at the same time. Great and fun to drive fast. Terrible in slow stop and go traffic.
Very expensive to maintain. But the sound of the v10 is like nothing else. Totally amazing to to drive and plenty of power . Jul 05, 2020

I have owned this car for around 1.5 years and have loved every minute of it. It has been very reliable and has delivered all the power I have ever needed. I would recommend this car for anyone as a collector or daily driver.Apr 22, 2015

What can one say about a V10 M5...the car is truly magnificent and almost a perfect car except for the fact it gets about 12MPG. I cant find one other thing that I could complain about except for the older I-Drive is difficult to use perhaps..Apr 09, 2015

It's the Ultimate Driving Machine! Think about blasting around town or down the highway after a bad's work. Talk about the Ultimate stress reliever.
Acceleration is Phenomenal
Braking Power is Phenomenal
Shifting in Sport "M" Mode is Phenomenal
Styling Cues Phenomenal
Did I mention this car was fast?!

It's the ultimate driving machine. BMW has outdone themselves again with this engineering marvel. The V10 power plant is something worthy of its own page in the record books, with heart pounding pleasure delivering performance. A kick in the seat of your pants done with class. I love everything especially the sound. The car looks amazing and is a treat to drive, it is my daily driver and has been issue free. The leather is plush and the power is plentiful oh and it fits my whole family and groceries.Dec 24, 2013

If there is no snow, this is my daily driver. People notice you on the road. It is powerful enough to scare your passenger. You feel the control always. M button makes me feel the king of the roads.I love it!Dec 23, 2013

I have found the M5 to be a consumate sedan able to tool around town or scream down the road with 500 horses unleashed. Very comfortable and an insane highway car gobbling up miles with ease and luxury. I will miss the car once it finds its new home

What a great car! for 2003 the 400hp is just amazing how BMW uses the full
power. have a few upgrades to push it to 420hp, this car keeps up with the
new cars on the road today, it's a sleeper. kill list- 2012 SS Camaro, 2012 STI,
WRX, and a 2006 Audi S6 V-8. car is well maintained and rarely hot roded, be
prepared for $200.00 oil changes and $850.00 when you need new brakes. My
suggestion get the brake upgrade kit on ebay, cheaper and drill and slotted
rotors and brake pads for around $500.00
Also this car sits very low, very low! maintenance is very expensive, make sure
you find a really reliable mechanic, if any one lives in the Denver area i have a
great place that wont bend you over and tell you how it is.

Finally, I got something that I really like to talk about.
BMW M5 500hp when is warmed and 400 hp when is cold.
Nurburgring Ring Taxi official car.
Just in cased if anyone did not know Nurburgring is the longest track on earth. Of course located in the sausage country called Germany....:P
Famous tunners for this car: Hammann, Ac schnitzer, Hartge, don't forget Lumma. ^^
Lets talked about Performance: Acceleration is pretty good 8 out of 10. Braking is 8 out of 10, Handling is depend if you put a big bear in the small cage.... hmm... is hard for the big bear to move around. Since I lived over San Francisco, I never felt the maxium potential of my black bear....-___- If anyone knows SF did not have a big road and up and down. If I lived over Los Angles or Germany when grandma drove 150 miles on the autobhan?? Maybe this is pretty good car.
Cost of Ownership: Maintenance is so BMW M. That I could said... This is the chart If cause Ferrari $500.00 and up to change oil... so bmw M will roughly cost $ 200.00 so be prepared. Gas millage?? This is not Prius or Tesla so don't expect much but is better than Mc Laren F1 or any new Ferrari.... Come on guys 500 hp V10 will dig deeper on ur wallet compared than smart car?? That is reality......
Appearance: Is pretty good interior and exterior is pretty sexy for father type. Sorry... I am not really a big fond of saloon type.... If I had a choices and money father type car for me is Aston Martin Vanquish... Ha ha ha ha
Build Quality: Never had a problem yet... I think BMW way better than MBZ AMG. Be careful with MBZ AMG inter cooler is very expensive to repair. I think I could said that "The Ultimate driving machine" slogan for BMW is proven compared to MBZ....:P Let's see the history. The famous McLaren F1 used M powered. Is rough and manly still the most macho car in the world till today. No stereo no power steering all muscle no cd either and no air conditioner... O yeah just only man and engine..:P The next generation is hold by Mercedes Benz. They called McLaren Vision??? hmm... very beautiful but so female car.... So Paris Hilton.... Ha ha ha ha. Upss I will need to used my pink furr coat to drive this McLaren Vision and listen to my backstreet boys... Ha ha ha
So I lived the judgment to you all.
Fun factor: Is pretty fun on the long ride and flat circuit. If you planned to drift with it.... the fun factor goes down from 9 out of 10 to 7 out of 10 but way more fun than tried to drift with paddle shifter car....:P
Hope my Input will help you guys and girl to buy a new car.
PS: This is my second M, I really satisfied and will continue to support BMW. O yeah....:P

A true person in engineering, quality is top notch and performance simply cannot be beat. The ///M V10 revs to a stratospherically high 8250 RPMs. And it is an absolute blast to drive, the 7 speed SMG gearbox is phenomenal.Oct 02, 2009

The best family performance saloon I ever drove. Amazing acceleration, awesome handling, and great exhaust sounds, very-very fun to drive! - Performance: Huge amounts of power: 507hp! 5Litre v10.
Yes, it is a monster! Neck breaking acceleration.
- Build quality: It hasn't needed any repairs. BMW quality.
Only thing was that the leather creaked a bit when turning, but you couldn't really even hear it!
- Appearance: Very nice designing, both interior and exterior.
Sportish, like it should be.
- Cost of Ownership: Expensive car in any way. You have to be rich to drive this. Spends around 18l/100km.

Having some issues with SMG, sometimes pauses from 2nd to 3rd in high
revs, actually shows traction control sign when it pauses, so I think it's

really comfortable. Build quality is amazing never needed repairs. It was extremely comfortable and looked rly nice although it was heavy. The milage wasnt very good but who cares if you're buying a BMW. I dont know if its fun to drive as my father drove it. I would recommend this car to every1.

drove this car, pretty advanced gearbox SMG shifts quite well but jerky driving in traffic. power was good but revs had to be up, throttle response wasnt quite like the e39 m5 but was deffinately faster. electric seat bolsters are cool but really doesnt seem to do much for my frame. ride is quite firm but understandable for a sedan of this caliber. The verdict? deffinately one of the fastest sedans out there with 507 hp V10 engine but i can get more car for 150 grandJan 03, 2008
