This vehicle leaks and leaks and leaks some more. Be prepared to replace the valve cover gaskets every 18 to 24 months (pricey endeavor). Be mindful that when approaching 70K to 100K milage the head gasket will go and THIS is a MAJOR maintenance cost! Besides the aforementioned...she's quirtky, exaperating, frustrating, and costly but so iconic! Oh, one more thing, this model year 2001 was when BMW owned Land Rover (til 2005) and they put the infamous "Super Lock" system in these vehicles. What a pain in the arse when the system locks you out. It isn't a matter of if but a matter of when! It cost me something north of $700.00 for a fix (to essentially get in my vehicle w/out busting a window).Oct 03, 2013

Bought this car (used) in 2004. In spite of all the reviews and forum, the mechanical reliability has been a definite asset. No problem whatsoever except for a new water pump. You can go most anywhere, the transmission system is great, and applies the power as it needs it off road. Aug 13, 2012
