always loved the first 10 miles driving the car , the bucket seats held you in place as i hugged turns , the thick steering wheel made you feel like you had all of the control of the car at all times. stiff suspension gave it that go cart like drive. which leads to , you dont want to pick up granny or grandpa in the car or take long trips , its a nice small fun car to drive .. i would get another one but probably choose the 6 cyl version for more power.Nov 15, 2014

I love how this engine is easy to turbo and do custom work on. Very spacious engine compartment, metric everything. Bearings are the only part on these cars that seem to go very quickly. Aside from tires maybe :p. The downside is the ECU can only be piggy-backed. No worthwhile ecu mods.May 21, 2013

Its my first car and I like it because it is a manual tranny and suprises me everytime i drive her. It is lacking in the horsepower department, and I don't want to put the money into her to make her more fun.Nov 05, 2009

It's pretty slow, but i it has good handling. It is terrible in the winter. I already had to replace the engine. If u get this car make sure it is a standard because it is terrible as an automatic.Sep 13, 2009

It gets pretty amazing gas mileage. Its a five-speed manual. I think its kind of gutless though. The inside is clean and the seats look like racing seats, according to Patrick. I just flushed the radiator today, other than that I've just had to keep up the regular maintenance. I love this car, it is amazing. It's a gorgeous car and it is extremely fun to drive. Oct 07, 2008

Like:
great handling, takes corners very well, it's pretty quick off the line, but the brakes need a little work. It's needed so many repairs so far, it's rediculous, I've already put about $2500 into it. The interiour is a little messy, due to my bad cleaning habits, but otherwise in pretty good condition. The exterior was just painted (silver), but still needs work done to the driver side quarter panel. The gas mileage isn't that great right now because I need to replace the O2 sensor. The maintenance on the car is otherwise relatively cheap.
This is a pretty fun car to drive overall though. I figured might as well get the whole "sports car" thing out of me now, that way I can move on to something a little more "fun".
I would definitely recommend the Tiburon to my friends, it's not like any other Hyundai model, it doesn't break unless you've treated it like garbage (like the previous owner of my car did).Sep 19, 2008

this was my favorite car, because it was sporty and it was the first car i had a car payment on. it never gave me any problems and it was an awesome car. it was very small and compact but it had enough room to fit things because it was a hatchback.Sep 04, 2008

Great car.. More for the ladies, Front wheel drives a turnoff, should have been rear wheel.. Lot of car for the money..Stock rides lousy lots of body eoll, stock exhaust is limiting and 15 inch wheels are out the door..4 wheel disk brakes are a plus and very smooth drivingAug 08, 2008

Overall, its a good-looking car. I think the bulbous hood is a bit much and wish they had toned it down a little, but other than that it looks pretty good for a Hyundia. The handling is easy and predictable, while it won't slam you against the doors in a turn, it is easy to find the limit. When the limit is hit, traction loss is smooth and maintainable - with a little late-braking in a corner you can even get the tail to come loose. Power is a bit short, especially in the automatic. There is a good amount of torque early on, though, which makes city driving a bit easier. The powerband is broad and smooth and it has doesn't drop off until just before the 6500 RPM red-line - which makes highway passing easy. With a curb weight of 2500 lbs, the car feels nimble and light... If only it had 30-40 more horse-power, it could have competed with the Integra Type-R and the Celica GT-S. Jun 11, 2008

When I was car hunting last summer, everyone I know said stay away from Korean cars, but when I said "Well what about the Tiburon?" Dad told me I can do what I want, but just don't complain, because I'll have it for three years.
The car itself is a great car, considering it's a Hyundai. The car was more or less in decent condition when I bought it. The most expensive part to fix on it so far was the steering rack which was rotted out. The interior is black upholstery and leather (or probably pleather) dash and roof. I have the SE model, which has power steering, locks, windows, and moonroof. The main cluster and middle console looks very futuristic, but most of it is functional. The exterior is in a lesser condition than the exterior for the moment, it needs a paint job, body work and I need to replace the foglight switch. For the winter, I've got Michelin X-Ice tires on her. In the summer, I'll be putting the stock rims back on with the Falken summer tires (don't know which tires they are). She handles pretty well due to the lower height of the car (I recently gotten rid of a Dodge Spirit), performance-wise: pretty good because it's a sports car, but I don't plan on putting any heavy mods on it for insurance reasons. My overall impression of the Tib is that it's a great car, and I would definately recommend it to other drivers. But expect to put some money into it if you get it at a private seller.Feb 01, 2008

I never thought highly of Hyundai and never liked the looks of the 2nd gen tibby till i got to test drive one. The handling, braking and acceleration in the car is pretty good and the top end is decent. The look of the car stuck me as weird and kinda ugly but I have come to like it and get over the annoying bulges in the hoodJan 11, 2008

Hyundais, in general, hold their price horribly. It's horrid. And on top of that, to pay insurance on what's technically deemed a "sports car," well...yeah...it doesn't help its case. I'll give Hyundai props on the design. Hyundai knows how to design their sports cars. It's always a unique design that comes together quite nicely. But the best comparison that I can give a Hyundai Tiburon is to...a porn star. Looks amazingly attractive on the outside, but inside...well...not up to par with say...a virgin.
Honestly...if you looked past the exterior, you'd see a I4 iron block. Iron blocks are sturdy, and resilient over time. Oh, and they tend to be heavy. If we're not looking at aftermarket modifications, and solely on OEM car parts...this is horrible. What doesn't help is Mitsubishi helping Hyundai at the beginning. No...Hyundai ends up getting the scrap parts that Mitsubishi didn't want...such as their god awful automatic transmissions. How many times has the transmission on this car gone out? 4 times. 3 under warranty. It pays to have the best warranty, especially if the car isn't that great to begin with.
So, you're probably thinking...if I hated this car so much, why did I keep it? It was my first car, and a first love. So it's hard to hate something you love. Acceleration isn't that great, seats weren't too bad, but the '97-'99 Tiburons had better seats to hold the non-fat Americans to the seats better. The bucket seats on the '01 doesn't help slender and fit guys like me as well as a tubby kid.
Lastly...the problem with these cheap cars is that you find yourself stuck in this little clique...that YOU might not have intended, or ever wanted to be in. What I mean is...that ever since movies like Fast and the Furious and its sequel movies made box office hits, you see idiots adding pointless crap to their car to emulate that look. Oh, let's add a giant stupid wing on the back of a FWD car. Or...let's throw on this ridiculously ugly body kit.
Don't get me wrong -Tiburons are good cheap cars, if you can get one for cheap. But in terms of modifying one, save your precious money and get a REAL car. You'll eventually realize that it's a futile attempt to dump money into a FWD. Keep it stock, drive it around daily, and it will be good to you...if you don't get the automatic version.Dec 28, 2007

We both love this car... It comes with power everything including a sunroof which we use all the time. It is amazing on gas which is awsome since gas is up to $1.20 CDN. We love the color cobalt blue. The interior is amazing and very clean the only thing this car doesn't have is leather seats which we dont really want anyway since it is 10 months of winter here.
