Reliability, feeling safe, economy. Highly recommended. The previous qualities are all the things I require from a car. The car cruises on the motorway and for a diesel is very quiet with good acceleration when required. Car sill drives well with 180.000 miles on the clock, thinking about changing but I am reluctant to get rid of ... I may buy some trouble this car has spoiled me.Oct 25, 2013

Build Quality- Its a VW what more can i say. Performance- Its only the 115 bhp but its fast and dose its job for me and my family. Cost- These car are a hand full cars that hold there price.Nov 25, 2011

Ok the golfs great fun to drive-bit heavy if im honest though this does give it the big car feel. You can throw it around an the tail will always come back, very forgiving in the corners. also i love the feel of the ride-you can always tell when its letting go. Down sides are the weight.. yes you get great safety but you pay for it with silly fuel bills, an i cant help driving like i stole it sometimes on those quiet mornings when noones about. all in all a great motor, it'll put a smile on your face one the way to work an sooth your furrowed brow on the way home... i was not happy with the big fat bolob that could not deliver the best speed , but i must admit it handlede very well , looked like a older fatter version than the mk3 golf gti , so if i want a golf i will go for the mk3 vr6 as there is much more power under its hoodMay 22, 2011

performance is ok, could be a bit faster, build quality is very good, Appearance, very nice, but needs modifying eg exterior, body kit, wheels, and interior could do with some modifications, eg, silver trim, leather seats, upgraded sound system because the sound system isn't very good Dec 16, 2010

the bodywork is in pretty good condition for its age, cud b faster but its areet for a tdi, it has full recaro inteiror. it dosent cost much to run as its a diesel however some parts r expensive if they go wrong.Apr 26, 2010

Ridiculously long-lasting Diesel engine and reliability. Amazing fuel milage (50+ Highway, 45+ City) and (this is random) the most powerful and coldest A/C of any car I have ever been in. I have put $215 in repairs into this car in 10 years. I am getting another one.... uh...... Will someone please give me some money? :)Apr 20, 2010

acceleration and braking is great, the quality of the car is fantastic,outside is gray, inside is black and very clean, it cost me only 4000 usd. spend 30 dls. in a week and half, maintanance is perfect. love it.Dec 16, 2009

its mine and its taken way past factory... but vw is a top company for a reason... as far as cost of ownership.. maintnece costs are high but few and far between. overall the diesel engine is worth the extra cashNov 10, 2009

This is a great commuter car, we get 24 city & 30 Hwy MPG. My biggest issue with this car is the oil consumption almost 1 quart/1250 mile. I have checked with mechanic and word is "thats normal". My daughter drives the car more then anyone and she loves it.Sep 19, 2008

I loved this car. it was all stock when we bought it. 1st we tinted all the windows (not front screen (that would be silly)), then i dropped it 40mm then added 18"wheels then air intake upgrade, Â£400 one off twin exit rear box. then rear lights, spoiler etc etc. fantastic car would still have it now if i had my way.Aug 24, 2008

I love this car, german cars are just superior. Power is OK if you think that its a 1.9 TDI engine. Sure It needs some repairs but no big deal. The diesel engine dont drink at all, I can make like 800 + km on one tink of diesel. Its great with the price of gazoline those days lol. If you look for a car that is realy fun to drive then its the one. I love my Golf :)!!Jul 06, 2008

this was a darkish red 2 door mk4 golf 1.4 with E/W (which was fitted after factory) E/doors. was really nice to drive, comfy seats, easy all round. good on fuel, very nippy too!Jun 22, 2008

Best overall economic auto transmission car to drive. German engineering is tops in my book. The leather interior and control panel is all solid state of the art German craftsmanship. It's a solid car. It takes corners very well. Turning radius is excellent and the overall performance grips the road. The sports package outfitted the car with sporty rims and spoiler detailing giving the car a finished look. Mar 31, 2008

Not the fastest but it still looks great, runs great and get's superb fuel mileage - a must in this day and age of ever increasing petrol prices. The interior is spot on; it is functional and visually appealing at the same time (I forgot about the VW trademark purple/red dash... nice touch). I opted for the 115bhp version for the fact that it is a work commute car. Not too concerned about the total performance package. Still, I do get compliments on it.Mar 09, 2008
