A little soft on the ride but this is a preference. Need to keep tire pressure and routine maintaince up as it can be expensive. Spares for Designo interiors could become hard to find. Model is rare so will possibly start to appreciate very soonJan 09, 2015

This car at 14 years and 78,000 mile is as smooth and powerful as the day it drove off the lot. If there is a problem with it on the highway - it's too smooth. If you are not careful you will be over the speed limit swarming you're not over 30mph!Aug 07, 2014

When buying a used S-class, you should expected it to cost you $$$ in repairs. My 2000 S430 has cost me $6,000 in repairs since I bought it 5 years ago. As with all Mercedes the costs 2000 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S430 I get up to 18 MPG city / 26 MPG hwyJun 08, 2014

Got it with 108k miles. Read reviews of 250k, 300k and even 480k miles. all said the 2000 S500 still going strong. It had a fair amount of rust along the bottom edges. Had to get it repaired and painted. Also had a battery drain problem. Turned out to be the driver door control module. $600 dealer repair. Needed valve cover gaskets, idler pulley, transmission mount/fluid change, cabin air and charcoal filters. Another $1,000. Nicely tinted by dealer.
Replaced side mirror covers with the 2007 V-cut signal version. $130. Power everything. Interior in very nice shape.Booming stereo. Now it looks like a 2 year old car. This car originally sold for $80,000.Feb 16, 2014

I traded my previous W140 for the W220. I liked having he lighter car and the better fuel economy and airbags. The car handles very well. it has been good on tires and with regular service in a year has been most reliable. I hope it stays that way. The only problems have been warnings of problems that do not exist. I have been told this is common. The worst part of the car really is the plastic seat trims on either side they just break even after replacing a couple they still broke. This has been the biggest problem to date. The car has 230,000 km uses almost no oil. I service it regularly and that seems to be a must. Being an Australian car it does not suffer from any rust problems. I keep reading the odd horror story and wait but so far so good.Nov 26, 2013

Love this car. It has certainly been reliable and definitely provided the feeling of luxury in the sense that one can drive this car and truly feel relaxed given the comfort that is provided by the car's performance and very appealing trim/design.May 10, 2013

I love the isolation and almost non existent road noise when driving this car on any surface. Car has plenty of power for passing and accelerating from stop lights and intersections. Overall I have had great reliability from this car with only a few minor issues like the soft close assist not always working, and door control module replacement. Mechanical fixes have been lower ball joint replacement, brake caliper, rotor and brakes, and oddly my transmission went out with under 70K miles on the car. I lucked out because it was under an extended warranty and a brand new tranny replaced the old one. This car has always been a looker and still gets compliments in its ripe old age!! Jun 27, 2012

The Performance of this Mercedes Benz is only matched by the attention to detail that is put into every Mercedes Benz. You will not find another car made in 2000 with as many features and extras that this car has. Aug 16, 2011

Well, what more can I say, its a Mercedes! The performance is amazing, very quick acceleration, and smooth braking. Cost of ownership, like I said its a Mercedes-Benz, and the part for repair are much more expensive than my honda. Engineering is beyond brilliant, and it looks like a mobster ride. Beautiful car, fun to drive, fun to own, but beware of financial issues if you plan on getting a Benz.Oct 03, 2009

This car is my daily driver to work and weekend trips, etc. Can be quite expensive to maintain. I always say bring your knee pads and lube when having it serviced at the dealership. The self-leveling system can be a nightmare at times. Brake pads/rotors are expensive as well. Oct 01, 2009

Performance - 5 Liter V8, shall i say more?
Build Quality - amazing. nothing breaks
Appearance - kind of an older person car
Cost of Ownership - ehh, its worth it
Fun Factor - amazing....
its all around great car. but i wish it was a BMW

This monster, Peridot Metallic (I call it Mountain Dew yellow), S500 is beyond belief! Formerly owned by a retired NFL player, this tricked out Benz has it all from walnut inlaid chrome spinners to an entertainment system to put anything to shame! Simply AMAZING! The exhaust makes it sound more like a jet than a Mercedes and the bi-xenon lights are brighter than the moon. You will never have a cold or hot behind with the air conditioned/heated/massaging seats and you will never be missed while driving down the road due to the unique color that makes EVERY head spin! And to top it off, it was even autographed by the GB Packer player himself (in 2 spots) when we took delivery of it. This truly is a one of a kind machine.Jan 26, 2009

I am emotionally attached to my Mercedes!
Just needs a little more power. S500 or the S55 AMG is the way to go. But I can't complain. Fuel economy is great for a strong V8 and I sure enjoy the 275 horses! Mine has about 110K about 65k miles on it.
It does not cost to much to own, compeered to sticker price, but then again parts are not cheep. The Dealer is a ripoff!
Very solid to drive and even after 500 Km drive you feel well rested.Nov 12, 2008

The S430 is Mercedes-Benz' flagship vehicle.
It's performance is truely amazing and the buid quality is second to none.
The interior quality is simply prestigious and fully loaded with every option.

Well it is a very classy car, and it has a lot of torque. It is definitely not a track car, so I wouldn't try to put it around turns too much. However, it packs a decent punch when flooring it. It can accelerate about the same as a stock 2005 Mustang GT. It's also really fun in a parking lot. The back seats are pretty much the most comfortable back seats you can find in a sedan. Heated AND Cooled Seats also make the car very comfortable, as well as the built in massager. Also, the makers of the car decided that a cigarette lighter and ashtray on each passenger door was necessary.Jul 16, 2008

I ordered this car in mid 1999. Picked it up September 7 2000. Have driven it full time for 146,000 miles. It has been and is a beautiful, incredible automobile in so many ways. The engine and drive train are like the day I bought it. Many of the gadgets are clumsy and have stopped working. The car is riddled with rust and has been for four years. I had it painted three year ago and as the paint shop owner warned me it has all returned only much worse now. If I keep the car all door skins must be replaced, two fenders, area around door frames, front windshield, all wheel wells must be cut out and painted of course. Jun 02, 2008

seats are leather, heated, cooled, massage you and adjust in 50 million different ways electrically, it is a very relaxing comfy place to be, big screen sat nav/TV/DVD etc so entertainment is first class. Considering the 19" CL wheels the ride is still comfy as it sits on a cushion of air, more toys and button that I can poke a stick at, a very nice place to be on the way to work,Apr 17, 2008
