Used 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 20.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 33 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns an 8.5/10 from our experts.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out for its sumptuous interior materials, strong electrified performance, and advanced technology, but it is also very expensive and does not qualify for federal tax rebate support. The other main trade-off is that the plug-in hybrid setup delivers impressive electric range, yet the overall fuel economy and range are still a bit disappointing for the price.

Only 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is somewhat selective rather than broadly discounted.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is presented as a polished, well-engineered luxury sedan with a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain and a smooth, quiet driving character.

Its powertrain is described as seamless in Hybrid mode, with the electric and gas systems blending smoothly and the nine-speed automatic working unobtrusively. The battery and electric motor add meaningful all-electric capability, and the car’s air suspension and rear-wheel steering support an easy, composed feel in daily use.

You also get a four-year/80,000-kilometre limited warranty, which helps with early ownership confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this is a complex, high-cost luxury vehicle, so maintenance and repair exposure can be significant if it has not been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S-Class line here centres on the S 500 and S 580 trims, while the S 580e tester adds plug-in hybrid hardware and a more electrified character. The base experience is already very luxurious, but the tester’s optional high-gloss black trim, AMG-style exterior pieces, and 20-inch AMG wheels show how much appearance and equipment can vary.
• Powertrain: The S 580e pairs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with a 28.6-kWh battery and an electric motor, delivering 90 kilometres of all-electric range and 510 horsepower. It can charge at 11 kW at home and supports 60 kW DC fast charging.
• Safety package: The car includes lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, hands-on highway driver-assist, Crosswind Assist, and Speed Limit Assist. Rear cross-traffic alert is an extra-cost option in Canada.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.8-inch OLED centre display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, augmented-reality navigation, wireless charging, and USB-C ports.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the S 580e at 4.6 Le/100 km combined, and the tester averaged 4.4 Le/100 km. When the battery is depleted, fuel consumption rises to 10.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in 2 trim levels: S 500 and S 580.

Here's the short version:

• S 500: This is the more straightforward entry point if you want the S-Class experience with the least complexity and a lower starting point than the plug-in hybrid tester. It should suit you if you value the core luxury, comfort, and technology without needing the extra electrified range.
• S 580: Choose this if you want the stronger V8-powered version and are willing to pay more for extra performance. It is the better fit if you want the most traditional high-output S-Class character.

The safety content notes that rear cross-traffic alert is an extra-cost option in Canada, so check that equipment carefully on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with some room to find value if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 33 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $112,028 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $112,028 CAD sits slightly below last year's $141,606 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has moved in buyers' favour, which can help you negotiate today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect depreciation pressure to remain a factor, especially given the S-Class's high original price and luxury-vehicle ownership costs. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you may soften some of that hit later.

Is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The S-Class has not yet had crash tests performed by either NHTSA or IIHS.

It comes with lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, hands-on highway driver-assist, Crosswind Assist, and Speed Limit Assist. The hands-on highway system can maintain distance, keep the car centred, and even handle lane changes when you signal.

One caveat is that rear cross-traffic alert is not standard in Canada and costs extra.

Should I buy a 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.89% compared with last year.
• The 2023 adds a new plug-in hybrid powertrain with strong electric range and advanced tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $97,670 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $112,028 CAD average.
• The 2022 uses a gasoline-electric mild hybrid setup with a lower entry price.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the newer electrified powertrain and the strongest mix of luxury, range, and technology. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2022 is the better value path.
