My lumina has been a great family car. It's been very dependable and still runs great. Besides the older styled look of the car, it's still in decent shape and rides nicely. The Lumina may not be the best looking car out there, but it's outlasted many of the others out there.Feb 19, 2013

Although the outside looked very plain vanilla, inside it was very plush and comfortable. The 3.8 V-6 ran great and it was a surprisingly fast car. This was the first "over powered FWD" car I owned and it took quite a bit of getting used to. Under very hard acceleration it was hard to control. The sunroof was a nice feature. The LTZ package included a handling package which was great.Jan 12, 2013

The car was sold to me by a very, very dear friend and I intend to show him and the car respect as long as i have it. It is very comfortable and runs like a top when accelerating. I would not have chosen the color white but it tolerable.

The Lumina 2nd generation sedan has a good balance of comfort, fun and practicality . This car is excellent on long trips, in terms of ride quality and fuel economy, There is little road noise inside the cabin and the Ls suspension remains firm yet still forgiving on your hind end even in the back seat, thanks in part to the Lumina's the 16" wheels. The 3100 engine is very reliable, and with over 310,000 km still offers plenty of power and no doubt about its reliability. I must cay when Gm Built this car in Oshawa they did it properly !Feb 25, 2012

Fun to drive in city, long distance can get boring
Acceleration is amazing on this car, whether its local speeds, or freeway
speeds,the torque curve is very reliable for passing that slow car, or that trailer.
Only interior noise is from the exhaust, and the serpentine belt

Luminas are surprisingly fun to drive. Acceleration with a 3.1 V6 is nothing to sneeze at, but my dad's 3.8 V6 Buick will smoke this car. Braking is excellent with ABS, e-brake has to be released with foot. Handles amazingly for a 4 door family sedan. Top speed is pretty good, hit 104 once. The belts on my engine make a ringing noise while it warms up because of a poorly designed spring tensioning system. It's a tough car, I have hit a couple snowbanks and scuffed up a guardrail, and each time the car was able to drive away. That being said, replacement body parts are reasonable and Luminas are very common, so easy to find parts cars. Kind of typical 90s exterior styling, with some unique grooves in the hood and sides and bold looking taillights. I've gotten 22-26 mpg with this car, pretty good for a midsize sedan. Only time it's been in the shop (other than body work) was to replace fuel filler neck.Dec 15, 2010

Average car that will keep going and going. 253,000 with only
the minor repairs. Wouldn't trade my Lumina for any Ford ever
made. This car is boring but reliable. Keep the maintenance up
and it will last forever. I have had very little trouble with this

Performance: Acceleration is ok, breaking is great, handles ok
Build: built well and very reliable. Best car to drive in the winter.
Appearence: factory styling and interior are great.
Cost of ownership: gas mileage is awsome when it runs good. Very reliable car. No major repairs other than regular maintenance. Gets between 25 and 30mpg hwy or about 350-400mi per tank.

Car I have always wanted since watching Days of Thunder. It works for us and that is all that counts. It still gets great ful mileage, it's paid for, kick in the pants to drive and it's a champion--nothing else to be said.Jun 26, 2009

The 1998 Lumina has reasonable acceleration, handles better then some of my more expensive cars, is very dependable, looks good in my opinion, doesn't cost that much in gas, and is fun to driven just a all around good value and are fun at a reasonable costApr 28, 2009

Well its basically my first car. This specific model of Lumina is used as a police car in some jurisdictions. My car is now eleven years old with only 75,000 miles on it. It is still giving me good service and I hope it lasts my throughout my time in college. Jan 31, 2009

Chevrolet Vehicle... As expected not the quality of the
Japanese but still got ya from point A to B. This
vehicle had minor problems with it a lot which led to
the eventual sale of it. the enjoyable thing about this
vehicle was that it had incredible downforce due to the

Even though the Lumina is huge and not very attractive, it is definately very comfortable. Five people can sit without feeling quished. It has the power to do a small burnout. The engine is extremely solid and the car will run forever. The only maintainance has been tires and oil changes.Aug 13, 2008

Incredibly reliable, never had any problems with her. In 9 years, the only thing I have had to do for her was have her EKG valve checked out. That was it.
Seats are incredibly comfortable. I have been able to take trips of 600+ miles without having to stop and stretch my back out. Also, the back seat is very comfortable for sleeping if you can't make it home.
Enough power to get me where I need to go, while still returning 29-32 miles per gallon. I maxxed out at 537 miles on one tank of gas, but then I had to push it the last half mile to the gas station.Mar 24, 2008
