The chevy Lumina is a decent car for work or school driving. Bought this car with 37,400 miles now has 49,700. The car handles good, but has slow acceleration. Gas mileage is between 20-25mpg. Problems that I have had where with the lower intake gaskets leaking happend twice, and I have replaced the front brakes. This car also uses synthetic motor oil. I would only recomend this vehicle to people who know how to fix cars since this vehicle is known for some engine problems, and problems with the front suspension.Feb 19, 2011

Its a car. Plain and simple. It has a V6 but gets decent mileage and isnt slow...or fast. Drive train feels solid but interior is built to a much lower standard. Suspension is above average and brakes are good.Feb 17, 2010

Plain, long, heavy, yet tourqey not much going for it except for comfort. 3.1 engine makes good power, transmission is set up like a truck and the car drives like it.

needed new engine and transmission and ac compressor, gas mileage is ok vor a v6 with 19-21 mpg, performance acceleration is nice but cruise control is a pain, car is fun to drive as a v6, but does not have the g force feeling of a v8Sep 28, 2009

Gets up and goes, burns threw brake pads and rotors like
none other, needs tune up, gas mileage is ok-ish, runs pretty
good for being so old, needs to be cleaned and sold, i need a

we had the 3.4 liter, which was not a good engine. the situation was this;
if you had the 3.1 it's this prob. if you had the 3.8(i think) it's this prob. but if you had the 3.4 its a long list of things and it wasnt cheap.Aug 11, 2009

Fun to drive and handles great in the corners. Could use a little more acceleration power. Its a '96 so its starting to fall apart. Great gas mileage during the summer. The brakes need to be improved for my AWESOME driving style!Jul 19, 2009

performance- acceleration is alright, breaking is pretty good, abd handeling is good
appearance is nice couple little dents but thats about all. interior is very nice for a 96'
cost of ownership- the gas mileage isnt too bad, maintenance is east to keep up on

It's a cheap 4-door car. It's nothing special, but it is reliaible and drives well for the price. I miss it but my wife hated the long, rounded hood. Gas mileage is decent and it's a good compromise between go power and gas mileage. It also has side-impact beams in the doors.Jun 25, 2009

I LOVE this car. It may be the biggest piece of junk with duck tape and beer cans holding it together but it is still the best thing. This car is really an imbarisment to society but there is nothing better then driving in that piece of junk.May 02, 2009

it runs. gets me from point a to point b. it rides but had fixed fuel pump and alot of other stuff. You cant beat 500 dollars for this car, i had it for about 3 years now. about to hit 200k miles.Mar 29, 2009

this car is not one of the best cars ever, it had over 210000 miles on it when i bought it though so its still pretty good. it has absolutly no power what so ever and it has some tranny problems. as for looks, its purple, what do you expect.Nov 04, 2008

Accelerates and handles well, but lacks overall speed. Exterior looks leave much to be desired. The Lumina is interesting to drive, and gets reasonable gas mileage for being 12 years old. Thus far maintenance hasn't been too much of a nightmare. Quality could be better, as it has had a right side pull since I got it.Oct 26, 2008

For a car that has 22x,xxx, the damn thing will still lay the rubber down when you want it to. It makes the kids with Honda Civics cry.
It squeeks, but I mean, its an old car that I got for... 700 dollars? So, Its not like I didn't get my money's worth.
If I drive it calmly I get about 22 mpg, (3.1 v6). Maitenence is damn cheap, Gotta run down to the Junkyard and find an old Lumina rotting there. There's about 1,000 just where I live.Aug 08, 2008

I have owneD Chevy's most of my life and besides a few unexpected expenses this one is the most comfortable and easiest to handle that I have owned and am surprised with the great gas mileage, I get around 30 to 34 miles to the gallon.
Whether it be going just 6 miles or 160 miles and this is at an ave. speed of 60 mph.Apr 26, 2008

This was a superb car for our family it was great until we were rear-ended. It endured several trips between salt lake city UT and Milwaukee WI. It handled the mountains with ease. Had the power to deal with most situations.Mar 28, 2008

With high-end Goodyear All-weather passenger tires, this car rides like it's on rails! Instant and accurate "feedback" from the excellent rack&pinion steering; absolutely perfect suspension; and more than adequate acceleration and braking easily puts this car at the very TOP of the fine performance heap on a poor-mans budget. I could not be happier!
After 115,000 miles, I developed a small external leak in my intake manifold gasket that affected the milage, and slowly leaked away my coolant on the OUTSIDE of the engine.. not into the oil-pan.
I went ahead and regasgeted everything from the Intake manifold gasket to the top of the stack.. and had SIGNIFICANT gains in power, milage, and quietness... not to mention, the leak is gone!Sep 14, 2007

My wife bought the car from her mechanic. It was the loaner that he let out. We have had the car for 5 years. Other than the transmission (110K) & Turn signal switch (135K) both common wear items, she is a great car.Jan 22, 2007
