They all have transmission problems but over all if they did not have this problem this car would be great for the kids as it has a rear fold down seat so the kids or pets could look out the back window.

The Ford Taurus SHO has great acceleration, braking power and a fun car to drive. This a durable car and I have not had to do many repairs. The car in my opinion does not handle as well as I would like. Aug 13, 2013

Just got Taurus. Needed decent size, performance and room at a good price. Quite rare here in NZ but seems durable and well thought of by all accounts. Time will tell.

Comfortable, well equiped, good safety equipment tally for age. Performance adaquate. Has that familiar 'big Ford' feel, despite being American, and front wheel drive... Handling 'competent' and great motorway ride.Dec 05, 2011

This was our family car for the last 14 years, very reliable and has broken down
only once due to battery failure. It cost very little to maintain and a good family
car. The build quality, like many American Cars, very strong especially in both the
chasis and door. However, it is a heavy vehicle and doesn't handle well. This car is
powered by a 3.0 V6 DOHC engine, with around 160-170hps, very quiet on both

I built this car from the ground up in 2 weeks. I stripped the wagon down to the bare shell, then swapped in everything from my 96 Smashed SHO sedan including full wiring harness and dash. Then I had one of 2 SHO wagons registered in America and Canada. Fun and awesome car that could hall around 7 people. This car rode like it was on rails with SARC struts on the front and H&R springs. It also had 17 x 8 Mille Miglia M11 rims with 245/45/17 rubber. It was a complete SHO in a wagon body so it was a total sleeper. This pic was from the All Ford show that it was entered in. Loved the car. The feel, the color, the looks i recieved from it, how the car could pass most on the road even though many didnt want to take me on. I loved the sound system because it just engulfed me. Automatic temp was great. Just made me feel like a million bucks. Just ashame that it cost more money to repair than i made. Also the it took premium to fill and cost 45 to fill. That was when gas was cheap.Nov 23, 2009

v6 3.0 litre great power but drink to much of gaz great suspension a lot of space nice sound system a lot of space to put thing as maps etc not a Formula one car but still great fun to drive Oct 31, 2009

This car had good performance and was reliable >the only trouble I had with it was when the check engine light came on and I payed MIDAS 378 dollars to fix it and it came right back on in a few days .I wound'nt recomend them to any one. Also the overdrive quit kicking in after about 73000 miles.Aug 12, 2009

This is the kind of car that you purchase when you
are a student, do not have money, and still haven't
realized that station wagons are not exactly sexy in
the U.S. The car had several problems from the
engine to the exhaust system during the 2 years I
had it, and had virtually no resale value when I

It's a good sleeper. It's also my first car, so it's has a deep sentimental value to me. It runs awesome and sound cool. At first glance it's just a granny taurus, but it's got a yamaha V8 so it's a bit quicker than a regular taurus.Jun 26, 2009

I love the car because it handles very well for a 4 door heavy sedan and it gets great gas milege while doing so. it also is ultra comfortable and gets off the line for how big it is. not to mention blacked out it looks rather sleek Jun 26, 2009

It has bad gas mileage.
It needs a new catalytic converter.
A new catalytic converter costs more than the car is worth.
It has ugly two toned interior.
It doesn't handle very well.

easy to work on, great gas milage, decent power even for a v6, comfortable seats, nice sytling, well build, lots of room, awsome 6 speaker audio system, very reliable, easy to drive, good in snow, easy upgrades, pretty good after market support. the Taurus has very futureistic looks inside and out, every thing is based on ford's logo and is almost too round, very nice look in front, over all a very cheap fun car Feb 26, 2009

The performance is what you'd expect for a car of the
type. It's got almost 250000 on the original engine and
transmission and it runs like a dream! It's a very
comfortable and affordable car. I get almost 30 MPG on

May be ugly but with the 24 valve Duratec its actually
got some pretty good midrange punch, I even beat a
1994 Lincoln Mark VIII with it! Not very fun in
the corners, but what can you expect. Bought it cheap

It's my first car, so she's my baby. For being 12 years old, she runs great. No big problems have arisen, and it gets great gas mileage. Maintenance is basic oil changes and checking tire pressure. I don't have to keep tabs on it. I love driving it. It's all purple leather interior, and it's gorgeous. The people before me took great care of her.Oct 09, 2008

Not a great car, but not a bad car either. Roomy, lots of cargo space, and quick enough to get around, but nothing sporty or fun like a real sports car. Take care of it and the engine will go farther than your average compact, but you'll end up replacing a lot of suspension parts and maybe a transmission. If your going to get a Taurus, a SHO is recommended for the sport driver out there, but for engine reliability the standard pushrod Vulcan V6 is best. The Duratech V6 is a good choice for those who want the same from the standard model but with more power.Sep 15, 2008

Overall, for 1996 this was an amazing car. Put it up against any other sedan from the era, and more then likely you will surprise a lot of people. The repair bills are horendous though, so watch out! They were great cars when new, but they are TERRIBLE "old" cars (due to the costly repairs).Jul 07, 2008

I had this car for alittle while, it had some computer problems that we spent $600 on and it was not even fixed, so that was that, the car went to a junk yard... Plus I locked my keys inside the car for few weeks.Jun 24, 2008

Replaced the trany 3 times, if the key was in the ignition the interior dome light would alway stay on, the only way to get it to go off was to pull (and hold) the parking break leaver... "?!?"Mar 16, 2008

My ex boss had that car and I had a chance to drive it across the country once. The car is absolutely wonderful to drive. But my boss spent a huge amount of money repairing it constantly. Therefore I can't really recomend it. If not for the technical problems, I'd love to own one.Jan 09, 2008

The car I learned how to drive on. that said, underpowered, under shocked, ugly jelly bean styling. but it had 15" alloys! hard seats, a few spots of bubbling paint. being sandwiched brought about the buick. Basically the samething 50% bigger. My folks buy crap cars. Dec 08, 2007
