I have had my 1996 Accord since New... Only Dealer Maintenance & recall repairs required... Just changed the clutch after 150k. Good reliable car..Dec 01, 2020

Greatest car ever made for reliablility and entry level tuners. I rebuild mine after I hit a deer and it runs like new, Check your valve clearance every 30,000 mile don't over tighten them and change your oil mine doesn't leak a drop and its got 230,000 rounds on her.May 02, 2014

Could have a body kit for it, but never found one I liked that was cost effective.
Suspension upgrades would do wonders for this car, but here we go again, cost was a factor.
Spending the money on this car and keeping it in ratio to worth of the car was fruitless. If I want a Hot Rod, buy a car designed for, and has the parts available for, would be the answer.... for what I paid for on addons and the price of the car, I did a great job.Apr 13, 2014

I've owned this car for about 5 years now. It had over 200,000 miles on it when I bought it. I have had to replace the master cylinder, radiator, and alternator. I love this car! The air conditioner hasn't worked since I bought it but the heater works great..lol. I live in Texas, so air conditioner would be awesome! I usually just refill the freon and it lasts for a while. I'm pretty sure it has a bad hose or something, but I'm not sure. I have driven this car over 200,000 more miles since buying it. It has been to several different states and through rain, snow, sleet, desert, and everything you can think of! I recently blew out the front passenger side tire which ripped out my wiring harness and busted out my blinker. I rigged the headlight to the driver side light and so it works but still haven't been able to replace the harness or get a new blinker. The car still runs and gets me back and forth from taking my kiddo to school everyday. Luckily it's not that far. lol. It has recently developed a harsh idle which goes up and down while in park or neutral. Not really sure what's going on there. But it still works for what I need it for. Feb 04, 2013

Gets great gas mileage, does not brake down ever, have 225,000 miles and still
not much for issues, be careful in winter it like to slide around like crazy.
Acceleration was okay, I cant speak for the auto version but the manual tranny
was a breeze and very forgiving. overall its a good car for getting around, you
wont win any races with it or make any heads turn, but for a cheap car you cant

quick acceleration, very good handling, very reliable, fair appearance, cheap gas mileage, somewhat fun to drive. I have owned this car for 4+ years and have had no major issues with it at all. would recommend this car as an everyday driver.Dec 22, 2010

i love every part of it except how slow it is. brakes tend to roast on spirited drives, handling is good now that i lowered it but it still needs a rear sway bar. never had ANY issues with it besides usual maintenance. i get 30mpg combinedSep 21, 2010

The 1996 Honda Accord is an exceptionally reliable vehicle with a very low cost of ownership. With currently over 170,000 miles, it runs beautifully. However, without the VTEC engine, this car does not pick up as quick as responsively as many drivers may want. The styling is wonderful with a design that does not look outdated at all despite it being a 14 year old vehicle. Apr 24, 2010

Excellent reliability, great gas mileage, and few repairs. Honda continues to provide excellent vehicles at excellent prices that have durability that far exceeds its American competitors. Performance is what you would expect from a 4 cylinder. The quality is excellent per all Hondas. Good gas mileage. Cheap to operate with mileage and low/no maintenance problems. I find it fun to drive since I don't have to worry whether it's going to start.Feb 18, 2009

what a great car , the only thing i can fault it on is the windows , exactly the same problem as the rover 600 , performance is tuned for cruising on motorways but if you want to burn a boy racer off at the lights , you shouldnt have any problem . Very reliable , luxurious roomy interior and lots of toys , comfortable ride and good looks with a bit of performance thrown in , great for carting your kids around at high speed .Sep 07, 2008

A nice little 4-cylinder. It was my mother's. She drove it to work and back on a pretty far commute and it lasted a while. It was in an unfortunate accident, and kept my mother fairly safe only resulting in two fractured bones. The Airbags and brakes are the only downfalls to this purchase.Aug 02, 2008

i love this amazing machine 240,000miles and still runs amazing was in a little accident in the left front so im still working out the brake and alighment issues but all in all its an amazing car for $500 all them miles and it sounds like has maybe 80000 all the perks of a fully loaded family car but the power and performance of a sports carJul 31, 2008

Accelerates well for a 4 cylinder. Transmission shifts rough like all Hondas.. The drivers window shifts to the side a little going up so the seal on the outside is off. Stereo system is great for a stock system. Gets about 28mpg pretty much no matter how I drive it. Looks good. No rust.Jul 17, 2008

Bought it new... in a champagne color. As you can see, it's silver now.
3-4 crashes and it's still not so bad. We left it a month on vacation in
freezing weather and came back, and still started perfectly.
Wheels are ugly. Plastic parts break easily (headlights, window motor,
fake wood trim).

I used this car for driver's ed, so my use was very limited. I didn't take the car above 50, 55, however, the acceleration was for the most part good (5 people in the car), braking was good, handling was very sluggish, perhaps because of the 5 people in the car, but even on the road test it felt that way. The car had around 130,000 miles so even though it was only a '96 it was built well. I cannot comment on maintence or any other problems etc.Feb 11, 2008

The H22A4 came out of a 1997 Prelude and a stage 3 ACT clutch was added along with 450CC injectors, AEM CAI, Megan Racing headers, NGK plugs and 10.1MM wires. Ive beat several cars with this beauty and the look on their face when they get beat by a family car is priceless. I believe the fastest competition i had in that car was either a BMW Z3 Roadster or a 2006 Mustang GT supercharged. Ive owned my 1996 Accord For a year now. It hasnt been bad to me at all. Only complaint is that the tranmission is going out. Its reliable for the most part. Once i get all the repairs done i garuntee this will be one of my favorite carsAug 14, 2007
