Performance wise it is very slow because it has 52 HP. I think the torque is in
the 70-80 ft/lbs range. Braking is ok, not the greatest but for how light the car
is, it stops great. The build quality is great. The engine will probably run
forever. The cost to run the car is very cheep compared to a van or truck. i
take frequent long trips and does well. the top quarter of the tank is the largest
and i can go those 270km on the top quarter of the tank. the tank holds 55L of
diesel fuel. There is not alot to this car, it is almost like you have an old tractor
engine in your car its so simple. There is no computer, no fooling around with
diagnostics, just plane jane and that's how i like it. This car is fun because it is
lite, it has a manual transmission and because it is a diesel with good torque. If
you don't like somebody riding your ass, you can drop down a gear, pin it and
watch them get smoked out!! ha ha suckers.Oct 26, 2010

for a five speed with 90-some horsepower it does well. it needs a little tlc and its gonna get it. cheap to buy, run, and maintain. cheap parts and efficient on gas. i hope this car is really good for me.May 27, 2010

Yes its slow, but corners like a beast, old-school euro styling makes it the best though:) Most v-dub guys aren't talking big game about their cars or using ricer parts from eBay. So its more grown up fun:) 31mpg and its a blast to cruise around in!Mar 30, 2010

I just love it, ok after it was stolen I have had electronic problems with it but bothing is unfixable. Nice performance for a car that is 16 years old. best car to drive through corners, as it has anti-rollbars which keeps the car from tilting over it's camber. and because this review needs to be longer im going to say bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla blaAug 18, 2008

Great first car, fun and had plenty of room in the interior. Sunroof was fun, good gas mileage and a very large trunk. A little underpowered with the 8valve 4cyl engine but it got the job done. Fairly reliable and built very well. i still miss this car to this dayJul 26, 2008

It was an underpowered car (only 90hp I believe). Because it was small it felt more peppy. Everything that could go wrong with this car, did go wrong. Even the door handles stopped working. It spent more time in the garage than I did driving it, which is sad, because I liked the car when it actually ran. Eventually I sold it, luckily.Jul 16, 2008

1 of a kind...Jetta mk2 vr6 with Audi leather interior & Deutsch Tunning Chip....Started as a project with very little light at the end of the tunnel. Now has become my little weekend sports car.
She does not go out in the rain or snow. She does not like days were the humidity is high. She's actually very picky just like any other Volkswagen of those years. She's fully re-built from the ground up.
This is my 9th Volks.....& probably not the last. The Germans make excellent cars & were way ahead of their time. In my opinion the MK2 Golf/Jetta second generation were some of the best built cars ever. You cannot kill the 1.8 8 v ....& should you decide to drop acouple of thousand dollars into your MK2 Jetta/Golf by going 2L 16V or even the later 2.8VR6 then you've got yourself a little monster / Go-Kart!!!

looks alot like my 91 Diesel but this one is gas and also a 5-spd. bought this one for $1000 in Ontario with 150,000kms in mint condition !! Didn't need a thing for an inspection I ended up selling this one to buy the 90 Golf (automatic) for Maggie, started out to teach her how to drive standard but she didn't have the patience for it. It's a 1.8L engine...no not turbo. Can't afford it but you know what I'm still extremly happy with my car! It's engine runs strong, and I take care of my car. It has never done me wrong even when I drove it from Calgray to Ontario in the hottest weather. I get mad like when my muffler fell off lol but minor things happen on mondified cars, ecspecially when it's lowered. I have to roll down my windows, nothing is automatic and that's the way I like it. Honestly I love "him" so much and would never sell! xo all u vw loversFeb 26, 2008
