car was always breaking down on me. had to carry half a workshop in the boot, was forever bursting a water hose or dropping something out the bottom. had to have the gearbox overhauled and it had not even done 100000 kmDec 16, 2011

Performance: Adequate, only a 1.4. Brakes are Good, Handling is Ok, narrow tires make for interesting handling in the wet.
Bulid Quality: Good, except every time Sabine got in it something broke
Appearence: Very Good
Cost of Ownership: Good on fuel and insurence, I never needed to replace any parts.
Fun Factor: Good for a base model, no Power Assistance from anything, so very direct responce from steeringSep 24, 2010

Performance- Very good acceleration for diesel engine, braking good, and handles
like a charm.
Build Qualities-no repairs needed, but always customizing.
Appearance-Great interior, still the standard interior since 1992, and obviously
Vdub styling.
Cost to keep is very cheap and fun in all sorts of driving and entertainment, and

Performance - medium acceleration, good braking, brilliant handling.
Build quality - high.
Apperance - cool, simple, nothing irrelevant
Cost of ownership - pretty low, easy to maintain.

bloody good car when had it. shifted pretty well. had carb trouble with it but mostly all did at that age. it handled like a garden shed too but was comfortable. miss the old girl. dont get them in red fades badly!Dec 08, 2009

Des auto war mein erstes und es hat motorisch sehr lange gehalten. wenn man berechnet das der 60 ps oködiesel umgebaut wurde. der lader eines 80 ps jetta schlummerte samt ladeluftkühler im motorraum! die einspritzpumpe wurde nachgedreht! der is gegangen wie hölle!Sep 28, 2009

I bought this car a little while ago for $900 and it was worth alot more that that! the body has 250,000 km on it and the motor, tranny and clutch are new and have less than 100,000 km on it. Its fast, its fun, and i love this car to death. If you ever get a chance to get one of these things, go for it. Aug 26, 2009

i like it beacuse of the 2,8 liter VR6 engine with 174 bhp and
235 nm and its standard in that engine and love that sound

Just a Golf3, for the 1992 just perfect, not fast but doin good job, the spare parts are not expensive..If You take a good care for it You'll never have serious problems. It needs air condition but there are models with it

I owned the 1400cc version.
Typical German building quality, this car is a Tank, it's reliable, made to last, though when you get it up to 140km/h it shakes... danger! Drinks a bit too...
Nothing special about its acceleration or braking capability, this isnt a racer, but a city vehicle. Nothing excelent in turns, i'd recommend lowering the springs to keep it from rolling as much.
It required only normal maintenance, no major hassles.Simple interior

M'n eerste wagen, een Volkswagen Golf 3, 75 pk. Een leuke wagen, rudimentair, een driedeurs, met een speciale lak - in de zon dieppaars, in de schaduw donkerblauw. Er stonden 15 duims BBS velgen op, zodat het een sportieve wagen werd. Een goede geluidsinstallatie een VV2 alarminstallatie maakt het plaatje compleet. Sep 13, 2008

This is the car that dragged me into the tuning scene. Don't get the diesel if you travel on highways...its far to loud for that at speed. Comfortable seats and great interior. id have another one happily. Tho Id spend the extra for performance. Lots of aftermarket equipment available to make things interesting.Aug 10, 2008

It was the 1.8 petrol. and had reasonable performance, not very good on petrol.
Mine had done 114 thousand miles when i bought it, and shortly afterwards it needed the head gasket done, which would have been a few hundred pounds.
Apart from that was pleased with the interior build quality, good stereo and seats etc.Jul 22, 2008

With the 1.6L non turbo diesel engine in it, I pass nothing but the filling station.
But I can't argue with the fuel economy 800km on 55L of diesel, the engine has 430,000km. Can anyone beat those numbers?Jun 22, 2008

I guess if you had a running model it would be awesome. My oil pump never worked, and i could never keep the car in idle for to lung before it died. Everything that happen was janky. Blow out with tires, broken into, breaking down on free way, dying batteries. I was SOOOO Glad to get rid of this car.Mar 22, 2008

A 1993 version of the popular Golf 3, 1.8L engine, 90 bhp, automatic transmission. Some would consider the Golf a small car, but with the split back-seat and large boot it can be transformed into a worker bee in a minute transporting all sorts of IKEA boxes. And tall Europeans with long limbs easily fit into the Golf - without putting down the backseat that is.
The car combines the sensible with the possibility to occasionally bring out the bad boy/girl with the heavy foot. Driving it like grandpa the Golf is very comfortable; driving it like Ricky Bobby the Golf is sporty and fun. The Golf design is classic - from mark 1 to 5 the Golf has evolved but still maintained the characteristics that makes us recognize it in the traffic.
