My 1992 Tercel was my first car. I bought it when it was three years old with 60,000 miles on it. I Drove it for eight years until I unfortunately got into an accident totaling the car. The car had about 250,000 miles on when I had to say good bye to it. During the time that I owned my tercel It gave me literally no trouble. Just some brake work done, calipers froze up on me once. The Engine Started burning some oil at 200,000 miles, I was using about a quart every 600 miles or so at 230,000 miles. The Engine still ran great regardless. I had a 80 mile round trip commute to work for years in this car, mostly via interstate highway and I loved driving this car on the Highway. It would cruise along so smooth even at speeds in the 75 - 85 MPH rang sometimes even going 90 mph on the days I would be running late. The noise level in the cabin is a little high on the highway, but still quieter then most other cars of this class. I drove in a lot of bad snow storms in this car as well and for a car this size it handled pretty well on slippery roads. I never went off the road driving in Horrible snow storms on the interstate. It was a little tricky to change lanes on a snow covered highway. Overall this car was AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Dec 10, 2011

After almost 600,000 km I bought a new car yesterday ( Lexus IS 250). Still have the Tercel and was a little sad to park her. She is still running great. Starts every time. Burns some oil and in fact have not changed the filter in 100,000 or so km. Most of the time no oil even shows on the dipstick. Original motor, transmission, clutch etc. Besides the wear on tires, windshields, a new water pump this car is original and will not die. I have had her since new and driven in every kind of weather, road condition and even variety of roads including a lot of backcountry logging-fishing roads. I have been waiting for her to die but she will not. She will still do 140km-hr for prolonged periods and still tops out at 175. Amazing vehicle.Jul 26, 2009

this car, in stick form, is quite fun to drive, able to get to 60 quite well (not fast, by all means), i get around 35mpg, so its a good on gas. maintence hasn't been much of an issue, but the control arm is on its way out (righthand side), so i'll have to replace it. my uncle and i work on my car together, its cheaper this way.
i had to get the tires re-balanced, and that took care of the annoying shimmy-ing in the steering wheel at high speeds.
acceleration, braking are fine. feels like teh car is going to drift when i take corners a bit too fast tho...haven't broken lose yet tho.
looks fine inside and out. i have seat covers cuz the vinyl on the drivers seat was cracked when i got it...Jul 14, 2009

This car was actually pretty fun. I barely fit in it and it had NO options - 5 sp, no A/C, manual windows and locks, steel wheels, etc. I only ever fixed the rad and ran it from 100k to 240k when I sold it to a guy for 1500 bucks. This car was great on gas... not sure why I ever sold it. I can't replace it for that now. Did I mention I installed my alpine stereo into it with 4 alpine speakers, mp3 deck (those were new then) and a sub in the trunk?Jul 11, 2008

Slow, but good on gas. Reliable, easy to work on, parts are still real cheap. I have done most of my maintainence, and some repairs with ease. The black plastic trim stains really easily, but paint can usually be buffed to a decent shine. Overall handling is ok, and FWD is fun to burn rubber easy with a standard transmission, but tires are tough to find for 13" wheelsJun 08, 2008

My folks bought me a new red 92 Toyota Tercel when I first moved on my own. I drove all over san francisco with this little red tercel. I named him Terry. We were close and i kept excellence maintenance and never had a single problem with him. Sold Terry to a friend who just recently had to part ways with him, 15 years later. Nov 23, 2007

I am writing about my 1992 Toyota Tercel. This was hands down the best car I ever owned. I bought her new and drove her to 130K in 3 years. She traveled the country with me. I never had a problem and she always started right up. I made the terrible error of trading her for a Geo Tracker. Yeah, I know big mistake. I had just moved to Florida and wanted a convertable. If you find one that is actually for sale, and you want a great cheap car, buy it!Jan 22, 2007
