Performance: Slow low down in the revs. Once the turbo kicks in it is Ok I got 90MPH out of it no problems. Brakes are Ok, you have to have faith in them. Handles a bit rolly polly but plenty of grip.
Bulit Quality: Very good.
Appearence: Nice classic car.
Cost of Ownership: 1.6 Turbo Diesel very economical
Fun Factor: I loved it!Oct 04, 2010

Performance: Not very fast, reasonable. Brakes are Ok. Handles well on low springs and shocks but doesn't like potholes or speedbumps.
Build Quality: Very Good. Not a lot to go wrong.
Appearence: Very nice, especially on a hot, sunny day with the top down.
Cost of Ownership: Very thrifty
Fun Factor: Loads of fun. Can't beat it.Oct 01, 2010

The car has got good handling and breaking. Great performance... Cost of
ownership is small, that is due to 2.8 engin... The car is really fun to drive, cause it
is comfortable and has got a nice handling... Reccomend! yeMar 27, 2010

The power to weight and handling make this an awesome car to drive. The car was originally a gto 8v but now has a corrado 1.8 g60 super charged engine fitted. This car is a lot of fun to drive as it looks standardJan 22, 2010

It's a freakin' go-cart. Granted, I have coilovers, a cam, chip, full exhaust upgrade, 11" front brake rotors and nearly no weight at all even with a full interior. Plus, it's really simple to work on as long as you have a repair manual.Oct 14, 2009

Very fast with a 68 mm SC pulley- about 190 Bhp. Would still acelerate in Germany at indicated 245 km/h! Good brakes, understeery handling, some torque steer and wheel spin in third!
Golf GTi Mk G60. Solid build quality- puts equivalent era Fords to shame.
Classic Golf Mk2 looks- with big bumpers.
Good gas mileage-easy to achieve 28-32 mpg on a run.
Zero depreciation- made money on this car.
Lots of fun- very understated- easy to take on Porsches and BMWs on the autobahn and leave them for dead on the right lane.Sep 21, 2009

This car is so much fun, just point it, floor it, and go. This thing is like a go-cart on steroids. It fells likes its on rails and is years ahead of it's time. The tiny 4 cylinder 8v motor only has 105hp in a car this size it is fun to drive. The 16v GTI version is perfect if you want a little more go.Aug 19, 2009

Great car, cheap spareparts and good km/l. Could use a intercooler to increase power. Very reliable and very few electrical gadgets that can fail. It could use new seats, but what can one expect from at car build in '91...... Buy one with metallic paint, it will look a lot better than white.Sep 20, 2008

This is an all around stocky car. The handling is nice, it sticks to the curves, on the autobahn it performs wonderful, and they last forever!
These things were built to stand the test of time. They are so easy to work on and to modify, if you feel so inclined. I am not really into the whole blocky look, but I picked up one over the weekend for $400 USD. Nothing wrong with it but a little bit of rust. You could do allot worse that pick up one of these babies!! Over all, I give it 89/100.Aug 04, 2008

It was a cute little car. I got it for free off of craigslist! The man I bought it from didn't want a car anymore. I found out it was becuase it had no 5th gear! I just drove it around town. The odometer didnt work but I know it had well over 200K on it. The original 8V motor was still ticking along (i mean ticking becuase the lifters were noisy) It ran pretty well for being neglected. I didn't do a thing to it except wash and wax it. It handled like crap because 2 of the struts were blown. The brakes were mushy, it needed a clutch, the head gasket went tits up too. Over all, It never left me stranded. Cheap to repair and easy too, Jul 23, 2008

i just got my 1991 vw golf gl for 300 hundred dollars and it seems to be the best 300 i ever spent. it needs a little exhaust work. but it has less miles then my dads jetta and run very well. the only thing i dont like about this car is the usuall vw noises. i constantly think somthing is wrong. then i relize that clicks and stuff were prolly coming from my cam. i kinda dig the sounds now.Apr 16, 2008

Imagine, Golf GTI with a supercharger. That was more or less it. And a flame thrower too (if you bypassed the cat). Very cool and quick car with a very specific noise (and much better than the rally version). Jan 30, 2008

1.3 lt, 65bhp (I think), black leather seats and interior.
On it's later life I've installed a custom exhaust, TSW rims, APEX sport suspension and lowered it which changed the handling of the car tremendously.
Sold it unhappily on 2002. Jan 06, 2008

The most funny car that I´ve ever driven. Mine had headers and everyone looked at it when I was passing. Somewhat agressive acceleration, good for evasion and excellent on taking the curves. It always let you know that you have full control: Actually it may feel as a body extension, no surprises performing with excellency.
The only thing I missed ever is the max speed: 165 km/h for the GL with version 2 doors , 1.8 liters and 4 speed manual transimission.
In the present, you can find all of this in very expensive cars. And entry level cars in Mexico, can hardly match this one.(it only is surpassed in final speed and fuel economy).
Ahhh , don´t forget durability it is a VW with last more than you :)
Thanks for reading.Dec 20, 2006
