1987 Toyota Supra Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Like I said below Toyota had NO INTEGRITY when it came to customers on this car. When the engine was run for years at certain speeds it simply Lost its Head Gasket position causing the engine to overheat and destruct by warping everything depending on your speed. I was told several times by DEALER MECHANICS this defect was inherent in the car and happened In and Out of Warranty usually more than once. They kept producing the same defective engine for 7 long years with No recall ever. They could've easily issued a service bulletin for the problem so Dealers could fix this at our expense but that would mean they admitted a problem which meant law suits. I truly believe this was a big screw up in Toyota since it was just before the Lexus line was born. Also Mark4's had no such problems. If buying one of these used PLEASE CHECK engine numbers since most cars would simply add a used engine after failure if it was bad. Also coolant in oil will show the problem. Considering all the other problems too it was the worst car I ever owned and will never buy Toyota again.Nov 16, 2014

This car is really fun to drive! Performance is good for an 80s Sports car, but it is very heavy. The Turbo makes it very quick from a roll, handling is very good, and the brakes are very grippy. It is very long, so you have to make sure that there is plenty of room when you merge. Exterior / Mechanical build quality is excellent, but the interior could use some work. The back seat is really only good for small children, although a small adult will fit. Gas is expensive! It requires premium, and only gets about 20MPG combined. The large tank allows about 350 miles per fuel up, but filling it is expensive!!!Oct 07, 2010

Acceleration is pretty good, could be better tho. Braking is good, the brakes stop on a dime. THe car handles amazingly. Build Quality is pretty good, I've only had to do routine matinence so far. I like the styling of the car fpr the most part, both inside and out. I average about 19.5 mpg, highway is a little better. The car is a blast to drive. The back end swings out easily which can be a lot of fun.Feb 18, 2010

This car is a sweet car and was pretty fast for its time. There was to models in the US of this car there was the N/A which came with a 7mge and Turbo version that came with a 7mgte but there was anothere Turbo version that was in Japan only and the came with a 1JZGTE which was a sweet motor. This car is great to drive and can be built to high hp numbers.Sep 12, 2009

This car is pretty fun. It isn't the fastest in the world mainly because it is heavy, but it's pretty fun because it handles well and just feels big and meaty. I've upgraded the brakes, tires, and clutch, it stops pretty quick. After 182,000 miles, it burns a little oil and sometimes it's hard to start, but it always gets me there. I take it to autocross and wear it out and it doesn't mind at all.Dec 18, 2008

The beast is great!!! Even with a NA engine it still has incredible pickup and can smoke tires into 3rd gear. The handling is far better then it should be for a MT FR car. The TEMS is a definite plus, allowing for a smooth ride and tight cornering. When you slide in to the drivers seat it feels as if the car is molded to you!! All in all a great car. With the mods done to it there is one problem, don't expect to get great mileage, thats about it.Aug 01, 2008

I love this car. The retro styling, and sweet flip up headlights have me addicted. The car purrs innocently while driving around the city, but when you open her up, you can hear that turbo SCREAM!! The targa roof adds a nice touch in the summer. Handling is surprizingly responsive for a 20 year old sports car. And the acceleration is very, very impressive with that turbo. With the top down my 1987 Supra is still a chick magnet. Love driving up the Southern California's Coast or out to the desert. Even with 142,000 miles on it this car will still do 140 mph smoothly and gets great gas mileage. I get 350 miles with a full tank of gas. The seats are comfortable and the adjustable lumbar support makes long drives more comfortable. My Supra is in excellent condition and still has its origional paint job. Looks like it just came of the showroom floor.Jul 02, 2007
