Driving 400Km's around Australia in the Corolla gave me a fair chance to get to know the Corolla and over all it's a good little runner. Not sporty, but not slow, the 1.6 engine in a small body shell delivers a reassuring level of power for motorways and can hold the limit for an hour with no complaints. What could be better ? The air vents in the dash get lose over time, and the bonnet stay catch has broken off at some long past moment. Like all pre-owned cars it has rattles and bumps, things need maintaining... Over all. the preformance isnt the best because its a 1.4 but it is a fun car to drive and has a lil bit of acceleration to it. it gets 30 miles to the gallon which is great the interior isnt the best but the exterior looks nice.Apr 05, 2012

I bought my FX-16 pre-rusted from the original owner in 1996 at 126500 miles, and it was a wonderfully powerful highway car and zippy rolling country road car. It has driven far longer than I imagined it would. Now (2010) at 194000 it's starting to get a little weak, but still zips along at higher RPMs. The car has been extremely reliable and drives wonderfully. I would like to invest more money in prolonging its life, but the body rust started in New England by the original owner is now quite bad in spots. It will be a very sad day when I have to retire the FX-16. The hatchback is very wide and useful, and can haul a lot. If they still made this exact car I would gladly buy 2 new ones tomorrow and never need to buy another car for the rest of my life.Apr 28, 2010

Very good engine and gear box but spaer parts are very expensive.Easy for handling, brakes very good but under full loads and often use lose power.Engine don't like sports driving and temperature goes very high so I must slow down. My engine type 2E 1.3ccm iz very good after 212,000km but carburator iz in very bad condition and I cann't find new for normal price in my countryMar 22, 2010

not much hp but lots of torque. handing and braking are like driving a go kart. built to last 400-500,000KM way longer than any now. fair price and lots of fun to drive in all weather especially wet or snowy. Oct 18, 2009

It was fun for a while to have just because we were able to drift it, even though there was no LSD and was a completely stock SR-5. It was also fun because we were able get down stickshift with this car. Horrible acceleration, braking, and handling because it was so old. It needed repairs everywhere...and the interior wasn't the best either. Gas was easy to come by though since it was a small tank, but the maintenance was hell since it wasn't maintained by the previous owners. Still fun to drive.Oct 13, 2009

slow slow slow. but its fun. and it never gave me trouble. the only problems i had was the horribly debilating rust. gas tank, break lines and the strut supports all rusted through. but that was because the previous owner drove it in the kootnays for 15 years and never washed the salt off. so if you could get a rust free example, i can almost guarantee that you will have a decent car to drive from a-b and further. although top speed was limited to 110 because it got scary past those speeds. strictly a city car. but you can't lose with a price tag of $0. about $200-$400 for one thats not rusted to bits.Aug 22, 2009

FX16 5speed Hatchback white with black trim. 1985 has a Japanese replacement engine 20000 miles in 2005. Reuse is good. Wow no matter how I drive it, I still get 30mpg so I say may as well Zooom. The muffler on it reveberates when I'm around another rockin car and it's very tempting to race it. The other guy is shocked but I dont know if its because Im a 48 year old woman or that this sucky looking car really moves. My friend calls my Fx16 Dee's little secret. The great thing about it is that doesnt attract much unwanted attention so fewer tickets and no risk of jacking. Wish I knew of a comprable newer car. I'm looking at 97 del sol si's as a cheep replacement but it doesnt feel as tight. If you know of a newer ride as nice and economical as this one I'd love to know about it!! Its absolutely gorgeous in almost every manner. The Corolla offers great handling and its body has held up for almost 23 years with minimal rust...this car is probably the best car I have ever driven...however mine is now modified and got about 40 mpg before my engine swap...so now it gets around 30 to 35. This is a modified and far from stock GT-S i am speaking of but mine had excelent preformance, brakes were good, handling was amazing, acceleration was very good. Was a lot of fun to drive, just rode really low to the ground and very bumpy ride if the roads were bad. The build of the car was above average, only complaints would be the dash. Styling is average at best, excelent sleeper, only got around 25mpg with the 20valve black top. Very Fun.Jul 09, 2009

I am still driving my FX16, awesome car. I bought it for $500 2nd owner of it, the lady i bought it off of used it through college, and then let it sit after she got a new car. The engine was locked up, got new new engine with 55k miles on it and dropped it in, had some problems with the fuel injection system but that was from sitting. The first couple months were rough though, had to carry tools and a case of ether around with me. LOL would be sitting on the side of the interstate cleaning out the fuel rail. But finally got all the junk run out of the gas tank and the engine, and it has run great. Had to replace shocks, radiator, a couple hoses, and a distributor. So it is def a win to me, awesome gas mileage, and cheap as heck to fill up even at 2.50 a gallon. I make other people cry. My AC even works still, and is colder than my wifes 2007 ford focus lol. Toyota makes the best cars.Apr 20, 2009

Toyota er bare den bedste bil.... Jeg vil helst kun køre i Toyota. Toyota har mange fede modeller og så er de ikke så dyre i forhold til andre biler. Jeg giver ikke meget for prestige biler... reliable spare parts are not expensive and they are available you don't need to visit the mechanic only for normal stuff like brakes spark plugs maintenance , toyota engines are powerful even if they are not monster machines you can find them in law volume but high power mine is 1.6 cc with 165 HP they are fast and economical Nov 09, 2008

MIne was red so add 10hp, it was an original Twin Cam so it was fitted with the 1600 4AGE Motor. A real wolf in sheeps clothing. A real pocket rocket. Not quite as quick as the RX-3 but boy did it handle.Jan 11, 2008

I owned this car for less than two years, but it was very good to me. Fantastic reliability and fun to drive as well. RWD compact cars are indeed a rarity. I bought it with 62,000+ kms on the clock and added another 60,000 plus before I sold it. Only real issue I had was a failing master cylinder for the clutch. Jan 10, 2008

i have seen these things tweaked and lowered and race spec'ed.they r one of the coolest lil cars ever and they last like a million years!i have quite a few friends ho have tweaked ones, and some that have not done anything more than put in gas and change the oil and they stil handle like they r on rails. its one bad ass ride with lots of potential.Jul 11, 2007

This car has been a wonderful car. Looks like new and drives like new. Holds well in 100 mile per hour winds (Columbus Day Storm). Hauls loads of things. Great on long trips as well as in town. Gas mileage is still at 44 per gal on the highway and 35 per gal in town. Great turning radius, power assist. Starts like a new car. I call it the Little Blue Whale.Oct 10, 2006
