I loved this car. This model and year was a very good one, especially
seeing as how the Supra name was very new. My particular one was
very beat up, but despite this, much of the performance remained
along with the stability and attractiveness. Albeit this car was an '85, it
was still faster than many of the cars in my town, even with a warped
cylinder head. The seats were my favorite. The driver bucket was fully
adjustable for just about any situation and conformed to the body
easily. Mine in particular was costly to own, but that had to do with a
lack of maintenance and respect from the previous owner. Above all
though, this car was fun. It was exhilarating to hit the gas and feel
yourself get pushed back into the seat in one smooth motion.Apr 03, 2010

The ultimate in 80's Japanese styling before they went all mainstream on us and started making fleets of jellybeans. Performance is disappointing when compared to even the most mundane vehicles today but driving this car is all about the looks and the fun of RWD with no electronic nannies to get in the way of the fun.Apr 01, 2010

Performance- Great, it handles and drives great

needs a turbo charger
It is swapped to a 7mge 24 valve inline 6
i did the work its mated to a W series 5 speed tranny W56
with a 4.30 diff about to be a tru track
its fun for taking corners Nov 05, 2009

the 5 speed close ratio tranny is amazing! The limited slip diffrential really puts those horses to the ground....
with the mass air flow modif, you can get 25 hp extra! it's worth the few $$$ of gas
the original sound system sucks!Oct 30, 2009

Needs 2jz. that is all.
Car is difficult to mod because of the lack of aftermarket support, it takes more time and is generally more expensive for performance parts, but worth every penny.
Toyota doesn't make cars like this anymore.Oct 21, 2009

Well the car was purchased with a blown 5M-GE. It was then swaped to a 2JZ-GE, and finally ended up with a 7M-GTE. The car is really fun to drive I have no complaints that's prolly why I own 3.Oct 15, 2009

the performance of this car is amazing considering when it was made and whats
under the hood. it has only a 2.8L I-6 that makes roughly 170hp, its RWD, stick
shift, and has independent rear suspension. it is a fairly fast car and handles like a
dream. also you can get around 18-19 mpg combined city/highway.Aug 19, 2009

* Performance - brakes and suspension need work, but accelerates awesome
* Build Quality - it's getting to that point, 25 year old suspension...
* Appearance - dash is cracked, seats are dirty but otherwise I love it
* Cost of Ownership - 23mpg city and minimal maintenance, LOVE IT.
* Fun Factor - is this car fun to drive? HELL YES.

The best thing to come out of the eighties, automotively. Not a barnstormer on the drag strip, but it's perfectly balanced. Things that came from the factory: a limited slip differential, 4-wheel discs, a close-ratio five speed mated to a 4.30:1 final drive, and a gorgeous inline six-- does it get any better?Jul 10, 2009

Overall the car was amazing. Even though mine had over 200,000 miles I was still blowing civics and caveliers out of the water. I loved having RWD. The car shifted smooth, looked gorgeous, was dependable as hell, never had any problems with her. Its a shame she's a cube in the scrapyard now :(Sep 10, 2008

The 1985 supra was in my opinion, a very behaved and overall good car. Until you put your foot into it, that is. at that point everything becomes relative. This car handles corners with ease. corners labeled 45 mph can easily be taken at 55-60 or more if there is a bank. While the stock power is respectable for an eighties vehicle, it leaves a little to desire. However i got a 20 year old one with 169,000 miles up to the 130 mph end of the speedometer. i dont recommend doing this, as the rpm's in 5th gear were a little over the 6500 redline. But overall, these are well built cars that are extremely well built.Jun 19, 2008

They mid eighties supra was in many ways advanced before it's time.
digital dash, comfy seats, adjustable in many ways, and accomedating for all sizes of people, if you weren't over 6'7.
Though its not exactly a car to be used for a night of cruising with five people, it is a nice car none the less.Jun 18, 2008

These Supras were built for speed and agility, not daily driving, with available 290 horse from the factory, who cares if the cops cant keep up with you on the thruway?Apr 23, 2008

I got this car for 2 reasons. 1. because I've always been a fan of the styling.
2. Because I wanted something that had more power than the little 4 banger
that I had before, but wanted better gas milage than the big Oldsmobile that
I had after that. It's a happy mix between the two. Apr 11, 2008

I was about 17 years old, when my farther got one of theese, it came in bronzemetallic -with the "black in the middle" wheels. I was stunned, imagine this: I lived in what you would call "Hicskville" where Opel kadets, Citroen 2CV's, WW's beetles and Ford Taunus where rulers... My Granparents bought the first Toyota in 1967 (a british racing green Crown ) Dad got the firts Celica St in 77, then a Corolla DOCH around 82 -and then the Supra! -many years later, I got my hands on a black 85' Supra -with about 200.000 on the odo, took a drive from Denmark to Paris France and back again without a squeak! and I floored it all the way from Normadie in France ( about 19.00 ) and returned the next day around 13.30 in Denmark (CPH) including the odd coffebreak/mens room. I find the 1985 toyota supra to be a fine example of Japanese craftsmanship. Although it's top end isnt all there, the torque is there to replace it. A great all round car for tight turns, thanks to the independent rear and all round disk brakes. The interior was designed very well. The many diffrent seat adjustments can be set comfortably for any type of driving.I also find the heater to work very well as for the ac. AWsome Ride!!!Dec 11, 2007

2.8litre straight 6. 0-60 in about 8 seconds (does weigh just shy of 2 tons). Top speed, don't know, although told would cruise at 135mph no bother! Built like a tank. Way ahead of it's time, on-board computer, digital dash, air con, electric everything. Dec 10, 2007

shes seen better days. i saved this car from a lady that was letting it rot in here parking spot. i saw it and fell in love first sight! the 2.8L is strong pushin 190HP stock and with the 5spd and RWD shes a blast to drive. even after an accident the car still holds together and performs like it should. she also has 4 wheel discs and redlines at 8000rpm. i want to get the body work done at least befor she goes next year.Dec 06, 2007

With the famous high compression in-line 6 cylinder engine and a manual transmission you can't help but have fun when driving this era supra. While it doesn't have the top-end speed of some more expensive sports cars, it has never mattered to me, the quick acceleration and tight cornering coupled with the P-Type seats make it fun and fast. In 23 years and 130+K miles the car has only let me down once and that was when it was new an electronic component related to the starter died after that NOTHING ever failed. Jul 26, 2007

This car is a very unique 80s car which will have heads turn everytime u pass by people. it has great gas mileage which is extremely important today because of rising gas prices. This car is long lasting, dependable, and just exciting to ride. The only thing i wish could be changed is its power. obviously its not a v8 but more horse power definetly wouldn't hurt!Jul 03, 2007
